  • Right Lower Control Arm w/ Ball Joint Replacement

I took my 05 Pontiac G6 sedan to get an oil change the other day and what do you know they called me back saying I need to replace my right lower control arm with ball joint. I had the right lower ball joint replaced about 40k miles ago. Apparently, their is a bunch of clay built up into it. They gave me an estimate of $551 with a computerized 4 wheel align. Is this a good price or am I getting screwed over? I just moved to Columbus, Ohio so I don't know of any shops that I can trust.

If you have a jack and some hand tools, it's easy and much cheaper to do by yourself. I don't know of that's a good price, though. I have no basis for comparison anymore.

The part it $70 through parts geek(http://www.partsgeek.com/lc57b9p-pon...ac+Control+Arm).

If you have changed a strut then you can do it yourself. Probably take 1-2 hours depending on how recently the fasteners were touched.

I would say it is a little on the expensive side but i haven had a shop do work on my car in several years. I would just go off of a base labor rate of $85-100 an hours plus parts. You do the math.

Thanks for reply's. Unfortunately, I have never done any maintenance on my car and would have absolutely no idea what to do. I think I'm just going to bring it in to a different auto repair shop and see what their estimate is.

Also, when I drive on the highway recently I have been having to keep my wheel turned slightly to the left and at times my car will shake and make a noise. Could this be due to the arm and ball joint?

Control arms are known failure parts on G6's. Buy parts with warranties on them. I personally use Moog, but don't go cheap or else you'll be replacing it again in 30-40k miles.
