  • Cylinder Compression

Hey all. Today I got done with a compression test, just another test to check for blown head gaskets, turned out great! All of my cylinders were exactly 170 psi. I think #2 had like 178 or so and #1 was 168.

I think those numbers look great as they are pretty close to each other. Now my question is, what should they be? Has anyone else done a compression test, what were your cylinders around? What does spec call for? This is on a 3.5 V6, LX9.

    Cylinder Compression

I just had a thread for this and no one else knows, I couldn't find it anywhere :/ all mine hit 170 (within 2 psi). I talked to mike at milzy and he said the 3400 stock should be 180 and with our slightly higher compression, he guesstimated around 186 so idk if that actually is stock or not but it gave me a ball park, what really matters is balance, as long as all are close then good! And for me, all are basically dead on! I'm a assuming with some wear but w/e. Mine is also a LX9
I live my life a quarter mile at a time. For those 16 seconds or less... I'm telling my g6... Go faster!!!

      Re: Cylinder Compression

Mileage is a factor as it's going to degrade over time, a good way to bring it back is cleaning those pistons and maybe use "restore" in your oil. Heard lots of good things but heard it wasn't good for certain bearings, not sure how true that claim is since I've only seen positive results. I was thinking about testing it out because obviously compression is a big part of where power comes from.
