You unplug it, and plug the wire harness I made into that.

Thanks or the clarification. Like I said, I'll let you know tomorrow if I successfully identify the proper pigtail. It'd be nice to be able to use the Homelink function in place of my clip-on garage door opener.

        Re: Homelink Overhead Consoles

Awesome news! Glad it worked out. I will have to try and make up a quick 1 page install guide to send with the remaining ones I have. Thank you for confirming that it works.

I believe the only issues for plug and play will be:

        1) The car doesn't currently have an overhead console with map lights, or you have a different looking one from this (convertible).
        2) The car has the Panoramic Sunroof whose controls take up that space.
        3) The car has something else in that spot.

As a sie note, I believe you can get a homelink to X10 connector that could turn on lights and stuff in the house too with the other buttons. Or just use it like me where I have my garage, my parents and the in-laws on it.

This should work in a Malibu or Aura with the same overhead console.

Ditto! I love Homelink and the color of the panel was a direct match to the original trim!

Any chance of something like this for a '07 convertible?

I don't know if this was ever offered with a convertible, but there are other ways to add homelink. I added it to my Civic, my brother's 96 chevy truck, my lawn mower, and my dad's suburban. If I can get some wiring diagrams and some convertible interior pictures, I might be able to fab something up that will work for you. Placement might not be in the same spot is all.

One tan and one grey one ready to go.

As for the convertible, if you can get me a picture of the overhead lights, and if the piece comes out, a picture of the back side and the space it occupied and I can see what I could do.

The way these are wired, would they be "hot" if the car was inactive?

My big concern is someone smashing the window, getting into the car, and hitting the (aftermarket) HomeLink button.

Yes they would, just like the factory ones are. These are factory parts that were removed from G6/Malibu/Aura's with the harness being made by me.

If you wire them another way, they are only hot when the dome light is on or the door is open. While this might be closer to what you want, chances are a thief would open the door after smashing the window.

If this is really a concern, then you could look into installing another switch elsewhere that would cut power to it when switched off. Of if you don't have a sunroof, then sunroof button might be able to be used.

                          Re: Homelink Overhead Consoles

Bumping this. If someone want to find their own homelink console, I am willing to make the cable and sell it alone for $15 shipped.

Looked into the Convertible one a little bit based on some ebay pictures and it looks like it might be a bit difficult to do from the console. Could probably mount one elsewhere, but i would need to see where a good spot was.

My panaramic sunroof doesn't work anyway, would I be able to get one of these and just not worry about the switch to open the sunroof?

Can you make one to work with panoramic sunroof?

I can't make one swap as nicely as this, since the pano roof switch is in the same space. Might be able to get something that could be mounted in the headliner, but it would require cutting the headliner. I did that in my civic.
