Hey! I have yet ANOTHER retrofit for you guys!

I'm doing this retrofit for our fellow member John Trollston and he said I could make a thread out of it.

Please visit my Eagle Eyes retrofit thread (http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=25014). There's some good stuff in there!

Also, please visit my Spyder Auto retrofit thread (http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=25217). There's some good stuff in there as well!

FYI: I do NOT grant anyone permission to use my pictures at free will. Please ask me for permission first. If I grant you permission, please put a reference to this post by using its link shown in your browser's URL bar and implement the proper credits to me. Thank you!

This post is open to discussion, but please don't start fights about personal opinions or anything senseless like that.

If you have any questions or picture requests, please feel free to reply to this post and let me know.

    ----------------------------------------------------------//

These are the headlights I'm retrofitting for this thread.

First thing is first, gotta pull that weather strip off!

The one thing that I found weird about these housings is they are sealed with permaseal and are stapled together. The next series of images show staples around the housing.

To open up this housing, I first tried a temp of 240F...

For 15 minutes. Come to find out, it wasn't enough. I was able to pry the housings open a little bit, but it was a royal PITA. So...

The next time I heated the housing up, I pumped the temp up to 280F...

And left it in there for 20 minutes.

I was able to do that just a few more times to get the housing totally opened.

I recommend taking the turn signal out of the housing (done by taking the two screws out) before you do anything else with it because it is easy to hit... Trust me.

The wire harness that comes in these housings is internally detachable. You can take it out by pinching its tab down with a pliers and pulling.

    Whoopie!

To take the reflector unit out, you have to take it out of its ball joints. One ball joint is attached to the aiming adjuster as shown, and there's one behind the low beam reflector and another behind the high beam reflector.

To take this out, you need to get a firm grip on it. What I did was I wrapped my fingers behind the low beam section of it and carefully pulled.

To take the aiming adjuster out, you twist it and pull it out like on Eagle Eyes and OEM housings. It is probably the easiest thing to do in terms of disassembling the housing.

Just for demonstration purposes, here is the ball joint behind the low beam reflector. It is the exact same setup as in a pair of Eagle Eyes.

    So, here it is!

Here is the completely gutted other half of the housing.

To take the low beam bulb guard out, you need to twist the peg that is holding it in.

Twist it so it is parallel with its respective slot.

Now make it more or less the same shape as its respective slot so you can slip it through.

    And it's out!

    ----------------------------------------------------------//

Not much to say here. If you have any questions or comments, leave a reply on this thread!

These are the marks for the cuts you need to make to the shroud (only applies to the Bullet shroud).

    ----------------------------------------------------------//

This is the way you want to look at the shroud when making modifications to it. There should be equal spacing between two of the ridge thingies on the top, bottom, and sides.

What I did was I marked the center of the top of it first to keep my orientations straight.

Then I marked slightly below each ridge thingy because you need to sand the whole shroud down to those marks.

This is the way the markings should look from this view.

Now, look at the bottom here.

Look at the ridge thingy just to the left of bottom-center.

Mark it like shown. On that whole ridge thingy, you should mark the bottom-most ridge... If that makes any sense haha. Your mark should be short of half way on that particular ridge. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say, so here...

    Another view

Now look at the ridge thingy just to the right of bottom-center.

Mark the same thing over there, as shown.

    ----------------------------------------------------------//

There ya go! I plan to have this retrofit done within the next couple weeks. I'm waiting until the weather warms up again, which won't be until the 21st. Ugh!!

They're aftermarket replicas, but they look and function the same and they use the same bulbs,

Looks good. I personally would have used a different shroud. Could just be the picture, but it doesn't look like the shroud touches the reflector bowl.

                      How's the back look?

And where's all the pictures like your other threads?

Thanks! The member I'm doing this retrofit for bought the "bullet" shroud, which is the same one that was used in one of Lightwerkz's G6 retrofits; just keep in mind the shroud that's on there (mini gatling gun) comes free with the kit, so that's why he went with that originally. Correct, the shroud does not touch the reflector bowl.

The back clears better than they did in the Eagle Eyes retrofit thus far, as a matter of fact.

I've got more pictures, but I haven't had time to upload them yet.

All that was meant by like-OEM is using a like-OEM headlight housing to retrofit the projector in. I'm confused as to why you're saying like-OEM my ass....
