Welcome to G6 Performance. Below is a FAQ of questions that are commonly asked on this forum on a regular basis. Please consult this page before asking a question, it helps with keeping constant posts from clustering up the database.

If any of these topics below interest you, please use the search feature in the upper right hand corner of this webpage to search keywords (as shown in the picture below). This helps to keep the website working smoothly.

Q: What kind of things can I do to increase the performance of my G6?

A: There are many different things you can do to increase the performance of your G6. Luckily on this forum there is a wide selection of vendors that make performance modifications to your G6. To name a few of the most popular: Lampoon’s CRABS (Cold Air Intake); Chris’s WAMS tune, Racingline’s Performance parts (Motor Mount Insert, Grounding Kit, and Strut Tower Bar), BMD’s Performance parts (Front Endlinks, and Stainless Steel Brakes lines), Custom Dual Exhaust (Valance sold separately), Brembo upgrade, Eibach/H&R lowering springs. This just names a few of the possibilities, if you get beyond this list you start going in the realm of custom fabrication.

Q: What should I do 1st to my G6 to get an immediate performance increase?

A: You will find the answer to this question to yield a different answer depending upon whom you ask on this forum. However the general consensus of people on here is to 1st get a Cold Air Intake, as it will allow you to see if modifying your G6 is something you seriously want to do, notably Lampoon (a member on this site) makes an exclusive Cold Air Intake system for our G6’s which is nicknamed “CRABS”. You can find this CRAB’s at the following address: http://www.crabintakes.com/ - You may also ask which one you should get, I recommend Option 3.

Q: Is there a tune for my G6?

A: Yes Chris, aka GTPPrix, makes a WAMS tune. This tune is hands down the best upgrade for your G6; however it’s recommended you get a CRAB system before purchasing it to get the most benefits. If you have question about this tune please refer to GTPPrix FAQ on his tune here : http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...ad.php?t=20392

Q: Is there a way to stiffen up the front end of the G6 going into turns to increase handling?

A: Yes there are a few options that numerous G6 owners on here use and swear by them. The 1st option is Racingline’s Strut Tower Bar which can be found here: http://racinglineperformance.com/sho...&idcategory=17. The 2nd option is BMD’s front endlink’s which can be found here :http://bmdperformance.com/frontendlinks.html .

Q: My front swar bar bushing seem to be worn, is there a performance grade bushing that can be used over OEM?

A: Yes, there is a bushing that can be installed that is far superior that OEM rubber bushings. Energy Suspension makes a polyurethane bushing with greasable mounts that are far superior to OEM bushings. These bushing can be installed whenever not only when the OEM bushing become worn-out. These bushings coupled with the BMD endlinks and Racingline STB will make such a solid front suspension it will change the entire dynamics of how the car steers. The size of the bushings range vastly, however Cmessick made a wonderful post on this topic that can be found here : http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...rgy+Suspension. You can find these at any local auto store or they can be special ordered.

Q: What options are available to lower the G6?

A: There are a few options available to lower the G6. A few popular options in Eibach and H&R, they can be found here: http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/S...er+Valve+Stems. Also a very popular option is Megan’s Racing Coilovers, these are a very fine tune option that is quite painless to install. These can be found here: http://www.meganoutlet.com/product.h...saab-9-3-04-07.

Q: What can I use to correct my negative camber when I lower my G6?

A: There is two options. The 1st option is the Eibach front alignment kit which can found here: http://www.tirerack.com/suspension/s...&cat=Alignment. The 2nd option is shims for the rear only, which can be found here: http://www.genuinesaab.com/catalog/p...roducts_id=439. Typically members have ordered a .3 and a .6mm kit for the rear. Each kit comes with two shims, you will only need one of each.

Q: Is there a modification I can install to improve the electrical components of my G6 like brightness of lights, richer stereo sound, and improve fuel efficiency?

A: Yes, there is an option. Racingline makes a grounding kit for the engine. This kit places 7 more grounding wires on certain points in the engine compartment. Stock G6’s have one ground wire that is a mere 3 gauge wire. These custom 12-10 gauge wires are pure copper and really help to increase the accuracy and efficiency of sensors as-well as components depend upon a solid connection through the car. This grounding kit can be found here: http://racinglineperformance.com/sho...&idcategory=17.

Q: Does anyone make an exhaust system for the G6?

A: Yes, there is a few options, there used to be an option called GT-R however this vendor is no longer around. Most exhaust these days are custom fabricated. A few vendors are Magnaflow and Flowmaster. GM does make a performance-grade exhaust however it is just a single tip setup. Using the "search" feature on the forums will yield a answer, this is a very popular addition to our G6's.

Q: Is there a valance that has dual exhaust holes pre-cut?

A: Yes, the part number of the valance is: 22712778 - which can be bought at the following website: http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/

Q: What spare plugs are recommended?

A: The NGK Laser Iridium spark plugs are what most people use for their G6, however it’s worth noting these spark plugs are same ones your dealership uses they are just branded with ACDelco on the box.

Q: What spark plug wires are recommended?

A: There is a different opinion amongst most people as to the brand of spark plug wires to use however most people use the Taylor Thunderbolt 8.2 wires or Kingsbourne 8mm wires. You can find them at Summit Racing. It’s worth noting that these are a huge improvement over stock wires.

Q: Is there a Transmission Cooler available for our G6’s?

A: Yes there is a Transmission cooler for our G6’s. The transmission cooler allows the transmission to work noticeable better in shifts especially on warm days, as-well as increase it's life. Cruisin6, a member on this forum, recently made a tutorial on the transmission cooler concept, you can find his post here: http://www.g6performance.com/forum/s...mission+cooler.

Q: Is there a way to make the shifts more solid?

A: Yes there is four options available to make shifts better. The 1st option is Racingline Motor Mount Inserts, they can be found here: http://racinglineperformance.com/sho...&idcategory=17. These insert help to stiffen up the mounts between the engine and transmission which lead to more solid and controlled shifts however is worth noting you will get more feedback in the steering wheel (this is not for comfort oriented people) – The 2nd option is the Racingline Grounding kit, once this is installed this will allow the transmission to shift more smoothly. – The 3rd option is GTPPrix’s WAMS tune, his tune changes the way the transmission shifts in quite a number of ways; refer to his FAQ for answers. – The 4th option is a custom transmission cooler; when the transmission runs cooler shifts are much smoother.

Q: What options can I do to increase braking?

A: There is a few options, namely BMD Performance offers Stainless Steel Brake Lines which can be found here: http://bmdperformance.com/stainlessbrakelines.html. It will be worth noting that using ATE Super Blue is recommended when replacing the brake fluid. As far as Rotors are concerned, there is a number of different options however R1Concepts makes a very good performance grade rotor set for our cars (Premium Series is recommend), they can be found here : http://www.r1concepts.com/. As far as brakes are concern, Hawk HPS brakes are a very good choice, but with everything brakes are a matter of preference amongst most members.

Q: Can Brembo’s be installed on our G6?

A: Yes, the Brembo upgrade can be performed on our G6’s, numerous users on this forum have done for the front brakes, a quick search on the forum with yield a result of this question.

Q: I’ve found website that offer a custom Mass Air Flow sensor that says will increase performance by 15 to 25 hp, how do you install these?

A: This is a trick question, DO NOT BUY THESE, they do not work. The ECM chip will see an improvement for about a day before it relearns the correct readings. Plus GTPPrix’s WAMS tune already tweaks the MAF sensor with his tune. Please do not buy these fake MAF sensors.

Q: is there additive that I can add to my G6 to increase performance and longevity?

A: Yes there are a few products that are recommended. Your own dealership won’t even tell you about these products unless you ask, they work this good. The 1st option is BG MOA which goes directly into your engine when you change your oil each time. This product contains a number of additive that clean your engine however the most notable additive is 1500mg of Zinc which at temps above 150 degree create a zero friction metal-on-metal environment; this increase performance by reducing RPM’s in the engine. The 2nd option is BG 44k, this product goes directly into the gas tank. This will clean every part of the engine that gas touches. These two products alone with increase mileage by at-least 4 MPG and restore the engines operation to the day you bought it from the dealership. You can find them on ebay here: http://www.ebay.com/sch/impart1731/m...1&_ipg=&_from=.

Thank you for reading. I hope this helps people whom normally ask these questions over and over again.
