  • Need Help G6 Convertible Subwoofer Box and Amp

First and foremost, hello everyone new to the forum. I been reading the forum for two days and I felt is time to post some questions.

    I am looking to upgrade my wife's G6 system "her christmas present" I bought most of the stuff I needed with the exception of the sub and the amp. Let me tell you what I have;

    Escort 9500CI radar detector
    Kenwood DNX6160 receiver
    Kenwood CMOS- Rear View Camera
    KAC-IP301v Ipod Video Connector
    XM Kit
JL Audio C2-690 tx 6x9 Speakers
    JL Audio C3-650 6.5 Speakers
PAC SWIJack Stering Wheeel Remote Interface
Metra 99-3303 Install kit for GM
    Metra 40-GM10 GM Antenna Adapter

Her car is convertible and I seen some pictures in this forum of set-ups where they build the sub box on the spare tire compartment. Do those boxes sound good? Does anyone know where I can get one commercially?

What Brand sub should I get, my wife listens mostly to R&B and Hip-Hop, What amp should I get? I was considering a Five channel Kenwood KenXR5S, the car is not going to competitions or nothing, just want a system that will sound good enough for people to know it is not factory. I am good with installs but I would not have a clue on how to make a box, not sure I would even want to try to make one.

Thanks in advanced for the help.

    Thanks

Cant help with the sub/amp reccomentdations, but found this doing a little digging

    This is FLRNEMT's vert

I highly doubt that there would be a box like this you could buy, it was prob custom made, but I'm not 100% sure. You could try PMing him

    Progression Page - G6P Garage

They had like 47 different kinds of diapers there so I picked up some ShamWow's and Duct Tape instead

For amps, i would look into Hifonics, specifically the ZXi60.4 + 1k. That amp will be more than enough to power your speakers and a sub. As for subs, I would look into the JL W3 series. They are great subs that sound super clean. And they are loud!

i belive FLRNEMT is the only very to put in a sub box in a vert. youll want to message him. i know he has since gotten rid of his Vert and he did offer me the box at one point in time. he may still have it so you may be able to get it from him

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

@AbnormAL did you get the enclosure? What kind of sub are you working with? Would you recommend it?

Sorry for being off topic. I'm looking for a good sub for my ride and can't wrap my head around which would suit me best.

Do I need to spend over $1000 to get some decent sound? I've been reading the reviews all over the internet and I didn't get closer to finding a solution. Plus most reviews are hype. Blatant copy of manufacturer's features that's it. Now I've found a different site which writes more on our language. Still there are 10 subs on the page and it's hard to choose. This car sub review is different. What I loved about the reviews were that he highlights many negatives. Best of all they are not watered down.

What are the most important things when you're looking for a sub? Any tips?
