  • HOW TO: Change F40 Fluid.

This is a pretty straight forward procedure, if you can change your oil you can do this.

First off place a catch pan under the drain plug (seen below) and crack the drain plug using a ratchet style Alan key, sorry I can’t remember the size, once the torque is off just use the bit to undo it the rest of the way. At this point the fluid should be free flowing. Unlike an auto all you need to do is drain it, there is no flushing needed this should get rid off all the fluid. I just shifted the tranny to every gear to knock any extra fluid loose. After letting it drip for 20-30 min replace the drain plug making sure it’s on there nice and tight.

When your ready to add the fluid, locate the filler plug.(Seen below) which just happens to be the exact same style of plug as the drain plug. The filler plugs in a pretty odd spot so I would recommend taking of your intake tube from the throttle body and the first mounting point so you can get the entire elbow out of the way. Once that’s done take the plug out...

Now adding the fluid... I'll start off by saying it’s a pain in the ass and goes slowly so you might need a bit of patients.

The opening on the Royal Purple bottle looks like (See below) and because this tranny uses a GL-4 gear oil, every type of fluid you use should look the same, if not your in for an ordeal!

Now you just need to find a way to make yourself comfortable well you pour in the fluid, it takes about 5 min a bottle. I couldn't fine any angel to get the last bit of each bottle in so I used a length of surgical tubing. Place the spout of the bottle in one and the other end in the tranny, I don't recommend doing this for the entire bottle because it’s a heavy weight fluid it will take FOR EVER!

Once you get the required 3.2 quarts in tighten up the filler plug and clean up any spilt fluid, and with the car off shift the tranny into every hear a few times just to make sure there's no air bubbles anywhere.

    All done!

          ?

It should have the same basic theory to it, yes, but the parts and locations will be different.

Exactly, it’s the same principal in every manual tranny, they all have drains and filler...

                      Shifts worse with royal purple

I changed the fluid about 3 weeks ago and first off i freaked out when the factory fluid was atf and not gear oil. Next instead if it shifting smoother it is worse than ever. My friend at the dealer says i may have voided my warranty as well. I went with your suggestions and now this happens. Please help!!!!!!
