  • Engine Differences...

so i am confused. is there two different variations of the 3.5?

i have a 07 with the 3.5 and it has a different character in the VIN then my dad does. he has a 06 with the 3.5.

what is the difference. i looked under the hood and all i can notice is they have extended the engine cover. i am getting worse MPG than he is but i thought that it was because i tend to be heavier on the throttle than him.

i searched and i just didnt understand.

2006 is a pushrod , 2007 employs variable valve timing.

    The 07 3.5 has 24 more horses.

            Both engine are OHVs.

The LX9 (2005-2007) is based on the old 3400, whereas the LZ4 (2007+) is based on the 3.9L.

Forgetting the LIM problems the 3400 is a pretty rock solid engine.

Its miss printed then. The 05-06 3500 in non VVT based off of the 3400. The 07+ 3500 is based off of the 3900 with VVT but not with off set bore of the 3900.

I remembered a GM rep told me the 07+ 3.5 LZ4 V6 is VVT capable but not utilized, only the 3.9 is VVT. I think it was BS.
