  • Alignment issues

I took my car in for an alignment and when I picked it up the guy told me that he had to drill my strut and he still couldn't get it dead on, the rear driver side tire is off by about .5 degrees. He also said that when he turned the car left on the test drive it did fine but it was harder to turn right.

I know this guy knows what he's talking about, so I believe him when he said he did all he could.

Is there anything I should be worrying about here?

what are your alignment numbers at now?? if you have a sheet that would be nice

if stuff is way off after drilling and all you may have something bent

He didn't give me the sheet he had, I didn't ask. He said that it was .5* off on my rear drivers tire, that's the only one out of alignment now.. I don't think he drilled the other side.

Half a degree off after a full alignment doesn't sound right to me.

Something is up, but I don't think it's anything to worry about right now as it will hardly effect your tire wear.

        I could be wrong though.

that much off makes me think something back there is bent but you shouldnt have any driving issues just some slight tire wear on the inside (or outside depending on positive or negative) edge make sure you rotated your tires to prevent problems

I would look closely and make sure nothing is bent. There's usually enough room for adjustments, without having to alter or drill anything.

Right, if the car was lowered I could understand it.

I'm gonna go ahead and guess his car is not lowered. The people who got the eibach springs have reported one degree off, and the other brands just get worse from there. Spaz is describing 1/2 degree off on one wheel.

thats what im wondering even if it is lowered both wheels should have been off by the same amount what hes saying is his LR wheel is off by alot
im guessing somethings got bent somehow

No the car's not lowered, I can't afford that

I looked over it very closely yesterday and don't see anything wrong...I'll take the wheels off again and post some pics if I can find the camera.

The main thing I'm worried about now isn't even that, it's the steering. I got an alignment to fix the drifting to the left while driving, and it didn't help. The mech said that to him it felt like you could turn the car left easier than you could right, and I agree with him. The front end alignment is perfect yet if I let the steering wheel do it's thing at hwy cruising speed I will veer off to the left, somewhat dramatically. I always have to keep my steering wheel cocked to the right.

That single cab GMC is looking really nice right about now.....

Edit: Did I mention it was a rental? Yeah, the dealership didn't let me in on that little secret. Thanks carfax.

Drifting to one side or the other while driving can be caused by several things, bad alignment is just one. Another possibility, and one that would be easy for you to check, is tire rotation. Rotate your tires, and see if it still drifts or pulls to the same side or if it changes in any way.

They were rotated at the time of the alignment, so no go there.
