  • Traded paint with another car...what now?

Well, my car got brushed by some soccer mom's white minivan. Left a scratch that isn't all that bad, but it did leave a few large paint streaks right across the corner of my front bumper. I used some rubbing compound on it and got the paint off and helped the scratches, but where the white paint used to be is now pretty dulled out. What do I do now? It's really not horrible looking, but definitely noticeable. I really don't wanna use touch up paint and make it worse...Would a good wax bring it back to life?

Agreed. I'd check with some local body shops. You don't want to do it yourself.

You could try using a less aggressive polish to bring the shine back, but like the others said, if you removed too much clearcoat you're pretty much screwed.

yah. And you don't wanna let that go because it may peel off even more. Then you'll start to really notice it.

Ok guys. After looking at it a lot closer today I noticed that it's all just a ton of small scratches all bunched together. Definitely took off the clearcoat and in one very small scratch all the way through the paint I'm going to do some inspecting around the parking lot at work, but I'm pretty sure I know who did it....I may try out some of that Scratch-X stuff or whatever it is. Seems like it may work or at least help.

You may have removed some cc, but it sounds more like the haze left by rubbing compound. When you use that stuff it will mostly leave a haze, which is why you follow it up with a milder polish and then glaze to restore the gloss and colour.
