Hi guys i own a 2005 g6 gt 4 door 3.5 liter automatic i am orginal owner all oil and repairs always maintianed i do high high milage 300 miles. i never had any problems and i have always taken good cra of the car all orginal mostly highway klms and i recently moved to a place that has a lot of rain alot 90% of our weather is always rain i have parked my car for about 4 months and i noticed my windows kept being moist or fogging up alot i went in the car and found my interior light up by the rear view mirror leaking drops of water on my shifter so i used piano wire to run the line through the drain hole on each side which allows water to run out on each side of the door area . So i thought i have fixed the problem than it rained again and noticed water still coming in the car so i said f&%k it lol i taped the sunroof around the edges for now untill i had time to figure out what the problem was as i wasnt using the car for a while . than noticed the car was drying up a bit on the inside and had stains on the side trims from the ceiling but dry i figured okay so the sunroof is screwed . i decided to take the car in to get serviced and checked and my heater/cool fan wasnt working niether speed 1-2-3-4 so i pulled the plastic case down from under the glove box to find it was really moist and wet i let it dry up a bit and hit it with a screw driver and the fan started working on 3 and 4 im like great i'll just replace the blower motor resistor so i left the car parked over the weekend the next following monday i start the car and check the fan and nothing works so i go ahead and try to hit it again and its filled with water nothing is working and i left it on high number 4 and hit it some more and than all this smoke came out of the vent and now it runs only on 4 . now im not really sure how it got full of waterover the weekend it did rain and no leaks from the ceiling or light or window trim by the windchill . im thinking what is going on so i call around and these auto places are charging almost 3000$ just to fix i could just buy a used car lol . so i decided to ask the best g6 car guys if anything simlair has happened but i got to say if the blower motor is turning on at 4 but i did feel whiel it was on the blower motor was feeling kinda heating up on teh bottom of the blower motor protective cup but could be normal as hwo offten do we really hold yoru hand on it while having it on full speed . any suggestion or ideas on hwo to find out why i found the blower motor dripping with water i know my g6 is old not rusty but sat for a few months runs and drives fine you would be suprised butu these water leaks and blower motor problem is only the start and i cant buy a new car untill the 2017 due to financal problems

    Re: blower motor

    So you have a sunroof.

The first places I would check are the drains in the corners front and back. You mentioned that you ran piano wire through them, so I assume they are clear. To clarify, you did the Sunroof drains that come out in the wheel wells, correct? All 4 drains should be clear so that they can keep up with a heavy rain.

The next thing I would check is that the sunroof drains are actually connected to the drain at the top. If they disconnect, the could let water in, even if they appeared clear with the piano wire.

Because you mentioned that you had water at the mirror, the next question is do you have the radio antenna between the windshield and the sunroof? If so, this could have come loose, or the weather stripping may have broken or shrunk. If you remove the overhead console, I believe you can access the bolts for this. You try several things: Tighten it, Remove and replace the gasket, Remove and apply sealant, or remove and cut a universal gasket to shape and replace.

Another couple things you can check for water leaks are the door seals. Make sure they are pushed up tight and seal well, especially at the top. They can shrink with age. Also, check the windshield for leaks. Autozone I believe has a more fluid windshield silicon sealant. I used it on an old truck I had to it would flow into the spaces. I ran a bead of it in the space between the windshield and the body where the original gasket was. It worked well and was inexpensive.

Now, for the blower motor, it's probably toast after the smoke, but you mention that you only have High (4) setting. This sounds like the Blower motor resistor failing, so the blower motor may still be good. Good thing is, that the Blower Motor is replaceable. You have to cut the original from the housing in a specific manner, but the new ones should come with the proper screws and mount to hold them. I believe it would be doable by a person with basic knowledge of working on a car, although I have never done one.

Good luck with your car. Also, next time try and post in paragraphs so it is easier to read. You provided a wealth of information, just hard to find it again when trying to respond.
