Car hot issues.

Ok, when i get home from driving about 15 miles half in town half highway and i stop at the end of my driveway (coast for like half mile) my temp gauge seems a little high, but not in the red. On my scangauge II it says 231F degrees. I know my high speed kicks on at 230F so i don't really see an issue with 231 degrees. Anyway to my issue is that when i turn off my car it can go really high, according to my gauge on the dash i am just barely below red and scangauge said 236F. I can hear my fan on so that's good. My question is is that if it's bad for my car to be that hot wile off or if being off really means nothing. Also does it hurt the car when it's that high and i turn the car on (usually jumps down rather quick assuming coolant rushing through). Wondering what you guys think about it. Just wanting to either set my mind to ease or if i need to take action.

I want to add in it was about 65-70F out it can get 110F here easily.

my g6 does it a bit but never hits 225 degrees and my previous car did the same, i was told its the gases inside the coolant or something

So, you are basically saying it's not going to hurt anything. I've been told that my low speed kicks on at like 224, high at 230 and thermostat opens at 195... So I'm assuming my car is fine running at 220 most of the time (usually what it runs down the highway after a wile)

mine just does it when i park and turn the car off. then if i start it within a couple mins. it shows a bit high like around 220 and then runs for a couple seconds and goes back to where it is always at. when i am going down the road i never moves fromabout 195- 200 i would say. it seems a little abnormal running at 220.

Yeah I don't know i been trying to figure it out I been trying to google my operating temp for my car with no luck. Any ideas on how to find this out?

maybe call a dealer and ask them. that would be my best guess. have you checked coolant and something could be wrong with you thermostat, that would be the most likely thing wrong and its not a big deal to replace

I mean it seems like my thermostat opens up fine and what not i can watch when it opens that the temp goes down some and stays there for a wile and then slowly starts to move up... I did two flushes on the coolant about 2,000 miles back. Both done at the dealer since they gave me a deal. The second one was because the coolant turned brown after a week and they did it again without a charge and stayed pink since. I'll call the dealer tomorrow and see if it is the thermostat or something. I can't imagine my water pump gone already. only 43,000 on the car

i think if the water pump was bad ud be in the red. and yes i would call the dealer

Yeah and probably some temperature jumps haha. My thermostat wont be to hard to replace i can see it easily and all i gotta do is take out my intake for more room... And thanks to crabs intake i just gotta unscrew couple things and bam it's out haha

If it is not overheating entirely and boiling over, it should be alright. It could be a thermostat stuck part way open or not opening up entirely. Shuting it off while hot is okay to do, gasoline engines will eventually cool down on there own. Unlike diesels which if shut off too hot can melt pistons inside of the block

I've never had my car go over 200 degrees. I'd freak if my car even went to 210.

All cars, no matter if you have a low temp thermo, massive fans or radiators will heat up after stoping from a highway run.
The engine still hot but the cooling system is not working.
What I do is open the hood for a while when I get home so the heat will escape and does not cook the wiring or other delicate engine parts.
So, unless you plan to install an electric waterpump in order to circulate the coolant when the engine is off, you will have this situation.

yeh common sense says that once you stop a moving car and have a hot engine, it will heat up more than when running. think about it, no cooling going on, no air flow from movement of car, etc

I know that it's going to get hot it was more of a question if it hurts the motor to start it wile it's still that hot... Anyway I asked the dealer and they said my thermostat opens at 195, low speed fan at 223 and high speed at 230. So with that in mind if my car is running at 230 after driving on the highway for 15 min and then coasting down a driveway and by time i stop it's around 230 that pretty much means my car is fine? Usually on the highway I'm around 220 unless i did more in town than normal i'm around 223 224.

What you guys think about this?
