hell yeah that 9 ms upshifting, let any manual transmission try to even touch that, dct is definitely the future, the gxp does have an updated transmission doesn't it?
Nope, same exact 6-speed automatic. The powertrain is untouched between the 07 GTP and 08 GXP.
yet they call it a performance brand, just a small turbo to bump it up to 300hp would be fine, or add an updated intake and exhaust to make it at least 280 hp, there's just something about the 300hp mark that is expected from a "performance-orientated" car, that also doesn't even have a manual transmission
Agreed. That plus the styling of this car suggests Pontiac hasn't learned after all from the worst days of the Grand Am. GXP is a 100% bomb. It's a shame, because they had me excited after the GP GXP and Solstice GXP. Then they diluted the badge with this bomb and the laughable Torrent GXP.

It's not that I think the car is slow. I love my 3.6L GTP to death, and it runs the same times as the GP GTPs and does so without a supercharger, so it definitely deserves the badge. But if they weren't going to change anything, they should've left it a GTP.

yea definitely, the grand prix is just a worn-out model, it lasted for a while and needs to be done, the solstice gxp is a quick car, that's all they have to for the g6 is add that turbo in there, even if it was the eco 4 engine, it still pushes 260 hp. Any with a few tweaks such as intake, exhaust, tune, you could easily see 275-300. I saw a solstice gxp a few weeks ago and it just took off and he was probably only using half of it's throttle. the gtp is not slow by any means. But also it isn't advertised as a performance car as the gxp series is. So to have it unchanged kills the idea of it. The only thing that will make it sell is that most people other than car enthusiasts and g6 owners know that is just a dressed up gtp from the previous year. People that have no clue will think "oh look at this "performance" car, gxp series that has 260 hp and rush out to buy it, when it is just a dressed up gtp.

GTP was the performance badge on the Grand Prix until they dropped a v8 into it.

The GTP was the top dog, and they could have quite easily called the v8 Grand Prix a GTP, but they chose not to.

Note: In 2006 the Grand Prix GTP was discontinued, but the 3800SC was offered on the GT.

I still say they should've kept GTP. At least that stands for something, GXP is just more "xtreme" garbage.

Something that really caught my eye was in the engine description. It said that our 3.6L v6s had an "electronic torque based engine management system". This is known in the C6 and GTO world as torque management. Anybody familiar with the LS2s know that torque management is bad. Some LS2 vehicles have picked up as much as .5 seconds in the 1/4 from a good tune that deleted TM

Yes, I believe most if not all of the tunes available for our engines (Vector, Tune Time, etc) delete the torque management program, or at least throttle it back severely.

MSN has a tad more detail....
check out what they did to the Torent. Those Bastards!
The big news from Pontiac is its return to a rear-wheel-drive platform on the new 2008 G8. In fact, the G8 will be the first GM vehicle to use a new platform developed by the company’s Australian subsidiary, Holden. With styling easily recognizable as a Pontiac, the new high-performance sedan will be available in G8 or G8 GT, the latter getting an impressive 362-horsepower 6.0-liter V8. Pontiac wants to move upscale with the new G8, which features a more stylish exterior and luxurious interior than the Grand Prix that it replaces. The G8 will also come standard with ABS, stability control, traction control and multiple airbags. A six-speed manual transmission will be available on the GT shortly after the car goes on sale early next year. Pontiac will also launch GXP versions of the G6 and Torrent. The G6 GXP will be available in coupe or sedan form, and will upgrade the standard G6 with a performance-tuned suspension, enhanced braking power and a 252-horsepower 3.6-liter V6 engine teamed with a 6-speed automatic transmission. A special G6 GXP Street Edition will add a new front fascia, new fog lights, a revised hood with air scoops, new body side rocker moldings and dual exhaust. A rear spoiler also is part of the GXP package, but is specific to either the coupe or sedan; the coupe model receives a larger, more aggressive “hammerhead” spoiler. The Torrent GXP gets similar styling and performance upgrades, getting 263 horses out of the same V6 engine. The two new GXP models will arrive in showrooms this fall.

Yea. If any of you guys trade up to one, you should ask the dealers to swap in the stock GTP wheels or your GT wheels even

Educated guess, most likely they will not change much at all from 2007 aside from GXP. The base and GT models are identical to 2007, aside from paint changes and probably the AUX-capable radio as an option. As far as GXP goes, there will probably be a $500-$750 premium or so over the 07 GTP just for the badge, then you have to factor in whatever the "Street Package" (barf) will cost if you want that.

After all, I'm pretty sure that the only reason they even bothered changing it to GXP was to be able to charge more, cause they certainly didn't do it to make a performance leader

One should probably able to negotiate that hike in price out of the price your end up paying.

Is it safe to say that the the 2008 GXP (minus the barf pkg) will effectively be the same as the 2007 GTP? If so, I'll just wait until then...

Basically yea, but there is some confusion as to which of the appearance changes belong to the street package and which don't. The buck-tooth grilles have been seen on GXP show cars that otherwise don't have the "barf package" (I like that) on them, so they might be standard on GXPs no matter what. If you like those, then wait. If you don't, look for a holdover GTP after the GXP comes out.
