  • Best Bluetooth option?

I'm looking to get bluetooth in my car. I don't know if I should just get a module or install a new head unit. One thing with the head unit would be I want to keep my mpg readings and such. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

If you want keep your DIC with a new headunit you will need the Metra 99-3303. If you dont want to go that route, I'd probably pick up something from Parrot. The bluetooth in my headunit is powered by Parrot and its the clearest bluetooth I've ever heard.

My Bluetooth is actually built in to my headunit. Here is a link to their hands free kits though. Click

              Re: Best Bluetooth option?

okay ive spent months researching this very topic. its what led me to g6performance.com. now, i know exactly what you want and you have a few options

costar technologies has an awesome bluetooth setup that REPLACES your onstar head unit. you WILL lose all onstar funtionality but instead gain a awesome bluetooth integrated car using your mirrow to call and dial numbers. its 329.99 on their website

another option is to install an isimple pxamg (i have one) no matter which option you go with, you WILL want on of these things. it does alot more than just aux support. but the downside is you only can have 2 of any feature they offer such as bluetooth,hd radio, ipod integration, and aux output. it's 129.99 on amazon

last option is to buy a 2008 head unit and install it yourself to save money if possible, then take it to the dealer to have it programmed if you don't already know how. it's about $350 depending on where you get it

my suggestion? a combination of the 2008 head unit with the isimple pxamg which will give you bluetooth and hdradio and your head unit will have your aux. i wouldnt get rid of onstar if i were you, onstar is the best thing to come to cars since carbon fiber.

I'm going to run a 08 head unit when i get one alongside my isimple pxamg with hdradio and ipod integration. that's my setup

onstar is basically free for the first 8 months and they give you free wireless minutes all the time so its basically like having another cellphone in your car. and if anything is going wrong with your car they can pull engine and transmission codes on the spot and tell you exactly what the hell is going on with your ride. onstar is the best and i will never get rid of it. then they have these awesome diagnostic specialist guys who are basically trained mechanics who will sit there and talk to you about the issue with your car and let you pick their brain for as long as you want. i once spent an hour on the phone with a guy LOL no homo anyways that's my opinion

there is also a choice of installing an antenna aux....but that option sucks balls.....don't do it
and don't do aftermarket head units....you will lose your dic, and if you go with a dic replacement it wont look classy either
keep it classy keep it as stock at possible don't do aftermarket in dash support

WOW.... thanks so much for this. I think I'm going to go with the isimple pxamg, I read about those. But I have an 08 gt, so what do you mean I need to get a 08 headunit

Hes saying have an 08 headunit so you can have aux input. You've already got one so you're good.

BTW, you have to buy onstar minutes, they dont just give them to you for free. And Onstar is only free for the first 6 months when you buy a new (or gm optimum used) vehicle.

Best bluetooth solution is to get one of our 100% OEM bluetooth retrofit kits for $249 and skip all the costar echo junk. Bluetooth has nothing to do with the head unit, its the VCIM.

I would be interested in 1 of your kits to try out in my 09 GXP and if it worked out nice pick up another one for my fiance's 08 GT.

well, I didn't read your profile. sorry about that, I was assuming you didn't have the aux. but since you do than your good. honestly I'm an onstar guy, i love the service. but if you truely know that you will NEVER use it or want it. my opinion is to go with costar. but again, you'll STILL, want the pxamg either way, its a good product. i have a useless ipod that the aux stopped working on and it was sitting in my closet for 2 years, now i have 30gb of music basically built into my car lol in case my phone dies. the pxamg is a very good second to costar and works the same way with 2 downsides. the hands free calling has a wire that you have to route and position somewhere in the vehicle close to the user. and the fact that you wont be able to use the mirror controls. if you buy a pxamg go with ISIMPLE, I DON;T RECOMMEND UPAC or whatever. give the thread more time too before you buy. someone else might have got something i missed.

                            Re: Best Bluetooth option?

ontar is free for 6 months, but if you ask they give you 2 extra months. they give me free minutes like its candy. all you have to do is push the blue button and ask politely sometimes, plus with the 6 months free trial they give you 600 hands free calling minutes to start for 5 bux.... they save you gas time and money by telling you what your engine codes mean on the spot. they told me my engine was misfiring one time. went to autozone picked up the 3m professional fuel system cleaning kit, cleaned my throttle body, cleaned my gas tank and injectors, cleaned the injector heads. no more problem, solved with 40 bux....

NOT to mention the fact that they have an unlimited minutes plan for 16 bux a month, that i sync with my google voice account which lets me use my car as an extension of my cellphone... in other words when someone calls my cellphone number my phone, my car, my home phone, and my laptop all start to ring until i pick one up. onstar 4 life bro ....

but if you say you have a Bluetooth option that won't get rid of my onstar, then I'm all ears. because my isimple is being used.

Yea my dad got a blue fusion in his 07 tundra. It works nice you just switch to the satilite channel and press 6 and its using Bluetooth. I'm looking for something similar keeping everything looking stock for around 100. He got his from best buy for 70.
