  • Heating system

I am looking for anyone that has has a problem with there heater. I have a 06 G6 GTP Sedan. I have had nothing but problems with the lack of heat. I took it back to the dealer once and they IMMEDIATELY put me in a rental as they considered it a safety issue as it was the middle of January. After doing many diagnostic test they (the dealer) finally got a code for a fault. The code didn't exist.
I love my car, but living in Ontario Canada is not a good thing if the car can't produce heat in the winter.
    Any ideas??? Anyone???

One more thing....the dealer also said that it may be a sensor. But there are many sensors and to start changing them on spec would be a big waste of money.

      It "may" be a sensor?

Who is this dealer? If they can't get it fixed, make them get you a new car!

No heat? They should be checking for air in the coolant hoses. Bad thermostat maybe?

Anyway, I don't see how an OBD-II code will give up any information on why you have no heat.

And it's June now, how come you haven't gotten it fixed yet? You certainly do not need the heat at this time of year.

          Oh yea...one more detail....

One thing I forgot to mention is that the snag is intermittent. No pattern whatsoever. We took all the details, temp settings heater position, etc of when the malfunction occurred and there is no pattern.

I'd look at the thermostat. If it had trouble opening up in the winter, that could cause an intermittant problem.

I still don't see how you could get a code from OBD-II for this problem, though, as it's not an engine or emmisions problem.

also, the thermostat is usually a pretty inexpensive piece to replace so it might be a good place to start. do you ever smell coolant while you are driving? does the temp gauge appear to read normally?

Temperature guage is reading fine. The one time they got a code was when it hard failed, and the outside air temperature was about minus 20 celsius and the thermostat was set to 18 celsius, and it was blowing cold as in air conditioner cold air. We even cranked the thermostat up to 30 celius and it was still cold. Set a code for the computer that controls the heating system and they replaced it. I talked to the air/ heat specialst today at the dealer and he is going back to GM to see what else they are going to do about this. The biggest problem is that it is intermittent and the only time the dealer has seen it is the one time when it hard failed.

When I'm talking about the thermostat, I'm talking about that little thing that's in-line on the coolant line going into the engine. It opens up at a certain temperature to allow coolant to flow, I *THINK* it's close to 200degrees.

Get them to check for air in the cooling system as well.

That thermostat has been checked as well. The "other" thermostat that I am talking about is the one to set the temperature in the car. Which they say also checked out serviceable. At this point in time they are not even looking at the cooling system as the problem, even as intermittent is strickly with the heating system. They keep saying sensor, but don't know how to isolate to exactly which sensor it is. From what they have told me there are many sensors in the vehicle. They all send electrical signals to a main computer and the computer recieves these signals, sees the temperature setting and provides the appropriate airflow. Problem sounds like it is one of these sensors, and they don't know how to isolate it.

The cooling system *IS* your heating system.

Air in the lines can cause the problem that you are describing.

Sorry.....I should have phrased that better. What I meant my cooling system is the air conditioning system.
I have to phone the tech tomorrow, I will ask him if he has flushed or backwashed the cooling lines. Sorry for the confusion.

Yea. The guy that is there specialist seems pretty good and seems like he knows his stuff, and he has told me that he has checked everything, and that now he is consulting with GM
