  • G6 VS same class cars

    This has been a question before a few times what class of car is the G6 in. The G6 GTP/GT are in the FWD sports car class for compact through midsize cars. G6 base 4 2.4L and V6 trim 3500 are in economy sedan class again for midsize car class.

    Cars that are in the GTP class are (and these are not all the cars just examples) Not nessasay cars the G6 will beat in a race!

    Saturn Aura XR
    Malibu SS/LTZ
    Neon SRT-4 (R/T)
    Caliper SRT-4
    Acura RSX
    Acura Integra
    Toyata Celica
    Scion TC
    Dodge Stratus R/T
    Toyata Camery
    Honda Civic SI
    Honda Acord V6
    VW Jetta
    VW GTI
    Subaru WRX (can be considered same class)
    Mitsubishi Eclipse GT
    Mitsubishi 3000 GT SL and SE (not VR-4)
    Torrent GXP
    Colbalt SS (includes 2.4L, supercharged, and turbo charged)
    Grand Prix GTP/GXP
    Monte Carlo SS/LTZ
    Grand AM GT

    Cars can be mistaken for our class but are not. This will include the V6 Mustang and V6 Camaro as same power ratings for competivness, but being RWD classified as a "higher performance" class.

    is this in regards to insurance rates too? I imagine a GTP/GXP is more to insure than a base or v6

      im guessin no, cuz alot of the cars listed very from sports car and family sedan. so its just platform wise.

        Don't base insurance off of this. They can vary greatly for many reasons.

          Agreed! When I bought my G6 3yrs ago my insurance company told me that they would want 400 more a year without side impact airbags for my age at the time of 22. So in less then a year and half the 06 side impact airbag option of 600 dollars at the time (now it is 300 dollars the option is ) paid for its self, thats just on variable. The SRT 4 neon is one of the most expesive FWD cars to insure from I understand.

            I really think that Charger SXT should be in our considered our imediate competition. My buddy has an 07, with a Diablo sport tune, and a K&N, and that car is QUICK... dont underestimate them...

            Also Charger R/T's arent as quick as everyone thinks.

              Speaking of insurance, when I got my SS, it was actually cheaper to insur than an LT would have been, because there arent very many of them, and the company that I use has never had a claim with an 2006 Malibu Maxx SS.... I was impressed lol

                yes and no. the SXT might be in our power class but drive terrain its not.

                      I still say that its in our class tho.... similar power plant, weight, wheelbase, horsepower, etc....

                        oh, and GrandPrix GT should have also been included, not just GTP and GXP.... (for the record I dont think that GXP's are in our class at all....)

                          yah the GXP GP would cream us, they have 303HP and 323ft lbs of torque

                              Just because the GP GXP is in our class doesnt mean we will beat it. It is in our class of car because its a compact-midsize car that is FWD.

                              A Charger SXT is in our power class, just like a V6 Camaro, V6 Mustang, and V6 Challanger, but offically being compred to each other they cant. That is because it is RWD platform VS a FWD platform.

                              Bottom line, IF there was a compact- midsized FWD 450 HP car it would be in our platform class. Even though it is way outside of our chance of beating it. If all of that makes sense
