  • Advice on rotors

My rotors are warped, severely. They have about 80,000 km (50k miles) on them, mostly highway. There is a groove where the pad touches that's pretty deep, 2-3mm.

New front rotors from the dealership are $171/ea, but I called partssource and they have AC Delco premium front rotors for $71/ea. Are these the same as the stock rotors? Or should I get some of these slotted or drilled rotors, I don't want to buy from ebay. Shipping is too expensive. I do hate the rust that forms every time it rains on the rotors I have now.
Another thing is my lifetime warranty pads from Midas, I kind of regret getting these. Could they do damage to rotors?

I've read around the forum, and I have a couple questions on removing the rotors as well. Especially about how to remove the calipers. I removed the two bolts from the back of the caliper, but the caliper wouldn't come out. Is there a trick? Anyone have a picture?
And if replacing pads, do you have to bleed the break line? how does that go down?

    Thanks for your help.

    Re: Advice on rotors

If I were you I'd just go to any brake garage or auto parts store and see what their prices are for generic rotors. They're usually cheaper than the dealer. You don't really need slotted or cross-drilled rotors for this car...I think they're mostly for looks.

          Re: Advice on rotors

          Thanks everyone for the replies.

I guess I'll call a couple more places, to see who has the best prices. Those videos are pretty helpful.

I didn't mention this before, but does anyone find it strange that my pads outlasted my rotors? Or maybe I can get my rotors machined still?

            Re: Advice on rotors

Update: I got my front rotors turned at partsource for $15 each. Good as new, no more vibrations.

              Re: Advice on rotors

do not get the stock rotors turned, the weight of the car trying to slow it down with these steal rotors will just warp again and again, ebay some slotted and drilled rotors and you will prolong the warping of your rotors. best bet!
