  • Making you GXP ram air hood functional

First, I dont take any reponsiblity if you break anything..... this is a very pain in the ass job. I persoanlly dont recomend you do it as the cost of breaking or scratching somthing is high.

First heres the scoop with the grill

You need to remove the grill which is tricky and CAN be pain staking

Easiest why, take off the engine cover. Just pop the black clips buy pulling on them softly to they pop, dont force them or you will be buying them

Next take theres little silver clips 2 on each side on the under side of the grills with a screw driver. Once both clips are out the grill falls off.

My grills wheren't painted as dark as I liked so I painted them myself

The hood with out the grills in them

Next drill out the grills in the honey comb style provided, I found not to do the out side 2inches of the grills as there thin and the platic likes to bend alot and is thin. Once done do a reverse install. Putting the clips back in is tricky, I have no sugestions on this, after I lost 3 of the 4clips I got clear epoxy and epoxyed mine back in.

You can leave the Pontaic black hood cover off for max air flow into the engine bay. I persoanlly didnt like how it turned out and only drilled out the passanger side, re painted it and re installed the grills. With that said I never did my driver side one as the holes your drilling out I dont see it flowing a secnificant amount of air to make a big diffrence.

Can you take the scoop off the hood and just cut or grind off the back to open it up...?
We use to do that to the GTO's to make ram air with a pan under it.

Yes you can! That would accally be the best way to do it, as the scoops do pop off. For me that would prob be fine, however, your everyday driver that goes through rain ect I dont know how much water would enter the engine bay.

But yep just pop the scoop off and see the pic bellow just jut thear little part out and the scoops would flow its max amount of air possible for the hood then.

Forgot to post first time around, but bout time you did that man. I was waiting for ya to.

You could probably just shave that area, and leave the grill out. That might look pretty good.

Good to know. I'll have to do this soon--time to warm up the dremel.

the only thing i see on doing but which is gonna cost some money it cut out that bracing for the fake grille's and maybe maybe make it a little bitter hole and paint mesh for the grilles thats the only thing i can think on making that right with air getting in the engine

Re: Making you GXP ram air hood functional

so I have been driving around since last may without the scoops in my GXP and have not had a problem. Some water does get in, but so far it hasn't messed anything up. I honestly think if water was going to damage anything then washing your engine bay would do more damage then the little bit of rain water that gets in thru the scoops.

For winter though I do plan to put the scoop inserts back in because I don't want ice / snow to mess anything up.
