well I'm gonna be 800 miles away from NY on saturday/sunday working>

have you ever seen niagara falls?
          ************************************************
          hmm lets see here.

Well for the original buffalo chicken wings you'd want to go to the anchor bar (where they were invented supposedly) heres their website http://www.anchorbar.com/

the biggest mall around would have to be the walden galleria mall. You could prolly spend all day there and still not have stopped into every store they got, its def an all day thing. heres their website http://www.waldengalleria.com/

also, check this out - http://home.buffalo.com/ its everything that gots to do with buffalo, events, concerts, etc. just scroll down to the "visitors guide" near the bottom of the page.

btw, besides trying chicken wings, also try a "beef on wheck" sandwich, and def try some "logonberry".

I'll get you directions in one sec.

I always have to go to The Midway on Clifton Hill when I go to Niagara, On. I've never been to Buffalo so I can't say much there....but I would have to advise that you avoid driving around Niagara Falls, NY like the plague! lol Unless you are going to the Military mall which is pretty cool and loaded with Canadians

And make sure you book a hotel on the Canadian side of Niagara Falls. Much more to do on your side (for the Falls, that is)

Those wings are good, I got my menu around here somewhere.

Wow thanks for the advice/suggestions everyone! It will all depend on the weather though if we go - Not worth it to do that drive if it's crap outside..it's meant to be a nice trip in the convertible you know

Tonicipriani - as I stated before - never been to Buffalo - when we did the Niagara Falls cruise last year we did not cross into the States. Maybe this summer we might do that though - see what everyone thinks...this could be my scoping it out

Re: Heading to Niagara Falls / Buffalo this weekend - advice?

                        Hi Kat,

The weather forecast for Fri-Sun is Sunny with some clouds, temperatures 71, 68, 59 degrees F, so you should enjoy our nice spring weather with the top down!

                        For Niagara Falls, NY:
All the previous posters are correct. Besides a Seneca Nation Casino, the city is nothing to be proud of.

                        For Buffalo, NY:

                        Casual Dining:
May I suggest you go to Duff's on Sheridan Drive and Millersport for chicken wings? It's right off the I-290, Millersport exit. While the Anchor Bar is home of the first chicken wings, we locals will swear by Duff's as having far superior wings.
http://www.duffsfamouswings.ca (they have 2 locations in Canada, the original location is the one I am suggesting you visit.)

If you're planning on trying beef on weck, may I suggest you visit any of the Anderson's restaurants....they have great roast beef and have great homemade frozen custards and ice creams! If you're going to the Galleria for shopping, there's an Anderson's nearby on Union road.
                        http://www.andersonscustard.com

Loganberry is best sampled at any of the Ted's Texas Red Hots locations.
                        http://www.tedsonline.com

                        Shopping:
If you're looking for a shopping experience that's not a mall:
Niagara Falls Boulevard in Tonawanda/Amherst is home to most national chain stores, the center of activity would be at the I-290 exit at Niagara Falls Boulevard.

Elmwood Avenue in Buffalo is known for a shopping experience with no national chains at all, all unique stores.

                        Sightseeing:

An easy one to do quickly from inside the car on your way to or from the Galleria mall, the Outlet mall, and home.

Simply driving down Delaware Avenue between downtown and the 198 expressway you'll see:
-the magnificent Art Deco City Hall
                        -Theodore Roosevelt Innagural House
-"Millionaire's Row" (there are several, several massive mansions from when Buffalo was the 9th largest city in the world in 1901)
-2 traffic circles, Forest Lawn Cemetary, and part of Delaware Park, all designed by renowned city planner Frederick Law Olmstead.
-and the driver's most fun road: the Delaware Avenue "S" curve

-from the 198 expressway, you'll see the world renowned Albright-Knox Modern Art Gallery, and the Buffalo Historical Society building, one of a few remaining from the 1901 Pan-American World Exposition

                        Hope this helps!

Where are you crossing into the US?

If you take the 405 to the Queenston-Lewiston bridge, or even in Niagara, you'll probably end up going over Grand Island, which involves tolls.

I'd suggest crossing a Fort Erie.

Tolls...yuck...but is it much further out of my way - won't I pay more in gas then I would in tolls?
