It's not worth it, you wil gain no extra power on these cars without it. It may give you a rougher idle if you do this (i've seen it before).

i did it on my truck and it did nothing. no gains, no losses. personally i think it is a waste of time and since it did nothing was probably a bad idea.

why is everyone so scared about doing it?

Like I said above, in many cases, the idle quality is altered and not worth the hassle.

My GP was impossible to tune afterwards. It screws with the reading and makes them unreliable.

It was also a 93 g/a, so i think the overall effects may be different with the newer cars. Not exactly sure.

Waste of time. I did it on my last car and it ran better for about 100 miles, then went down hill. Rough idle, worse mileage too. I ditched it soon after.

mine is a '99 4.3 and i honestly can't even tell i ever did it. mileage, idle, performance, sound...everything is the same. i wouldn't do it again i was just surprised to hear everyone flip out at the mere thought. if other cars have problems though it makes sense.

Here's why, the screen is there to smoothen the airflow over the sensor to allow for a more accurate reading, removing it can cause iritic readings which leads to a number of other issues. There screen is there for a reason and it a good reason at that.
