  • Hourly Shop Rates.

Just curious as to what people pay for shop rates on average? I was qouted $105 per hour today , which seemed a little steep, especially for a tire shop. I don't think i've ever payed more than $90.

I know the goodyear tire shop by me charges $70 an hr (US), so $105 seems pretty steep.

My mechanic I voted for is 90 per hour, but I have done so much bussniess with him through my job and personally I do get cut breaks alot..... Like he'll plug my tires for free, free bulbs, and even labor like if a job supose to be 4hrs I get charged 3 and so on.

                      Re: Hourly Shop Rates.

my mechanic charges $70/h. My family has delt with him (and his dad) for over 20 years so, i also get a break. But then again i also show up with a pot of coffee.

The body shop i deal with usualy charges $80/h, Hubby's work deals with him alot so i get a break there too. also bringin a 10K job to him does help a bit too

Most shops around here are billing $110/hr now. Body work is in the $50-60/hr range.

i work on my own rides but i would say $60-$70/hr sounds about right for shop work. closing in on $100/hr sounds pretty steep.

                              Re: Hourly Shop Rates.

What type or work is being done. You said tire shop so i'm assuming its tire related. In that case I have never paid an hourly rate for that. I've always paid for the tires and they are put on at no additional cost. any other tire work like changing hub bearing or whatever i've done myself. But i've always been quoted for the job as a total. But my mechanic is cool as hell. If you HAVE to have a mechanic work on it just take it to the next town over and see if its cheaper labor. Go to the poor side of town that usually helps for starters. Also another thing you could do is go to a meineke or whatever where they give you free quotes. Have them lift your car and watch how the take everything apart and when they tell you the problem ask em how they would fix it then take it home and fix it yourself. Easiest how to there is. Meineke = Chumps lol
