Has anyone installed gas struts for the hood?

I can't believe Pontiac cheaped out by installing a prop stick for the hood, as anyone looked into installing gas struts in lieu of the prop stick to hold the hood open?

search for I believe redline struts. Lampoon and a bunch of people have them installed.

Redline, huh, I don't know why GM does this, they put struts on the Saturn but not the Pontiac TLS2000, where did you get your struts?? Thanks.

So which ones would you recommend, standard, plus, or elite?? I just want something to hold the hood up, I only open the hood every weekend to check fluids, and I dont care about looks. Can't deciede between standard and plus. What would you recommend?

When they designed these they did a group buy.

Yes, you need a rivet gun.

Installation is easy, you need a measuring tape (or ruler), rivet gun, drill, drill bit.
They come with instructions telling you exactly what to do.

super easy to install. and they give great picture instructions


if you dont care about the color, go with the cheapest (standard i think) i have them and they still work great, even after my hood got all bent up

I have the standards and they work great.

GM put a (ie. one) gas strut under the hood of the G5/Cobalt, but these are better. The one in the G5 will not lift the hood on its own, it is just strong enough to hold the hood up.

I have the Elites and I like them, very easy to install.

I have the standard ones on my G6, and I had them on my previous car as well. They're awesome!
