  • Post your paint code!

Pontiac paint codes can be confusing! For example, the color code 96/WA8867 listed on our site can be shown on your vehicle as 96U or 96L or 8867 or WA8867. Often there will be a BC CC before the color code. This stands for Basecoat/Clearcoat. The U in the paint code means the Upper Color and the L means the Lower Color. Two tone vehicles will have each color coded, i.e. 96U and say 36L. Also, it could be 8867L or 8867U.

Ever since that paint thread with the bodykit, there has been debate on the number of paint codes for each color. Let's just see how many there are, if they do infact vary. The code can be found on the white sticker in your glove box. It is the group of numbers at the bottom, next to where it says, for example "BC/CC" (Base Coat/Clear Coat) for me since my car is black. Then next to that, it says "U8555" which means Upper color, and then the code 8555. So...

    Black - U8555

              Excellent idea for this post.

              Crimson Red GTP Coupe
Mine says BC/CC U946L, but the color code I used for my spoiler was 27U.

946L is the primary code, 27U is color code. I found a NAPA color manual for American cars. I'll locate it and post a link.

I find it interesting that our Crimson Red G6 is listed on that NAPA guide as "Cobalt Red." I was gonna mention this before because when I got my car, and added a chrome frame to the license plate, I was surprised to find (under the license plate) a stick that had some numbers on it, and "Cobalt Red" written there. I guess this was before they decided to make a GM car called a Cobalt or maybe the color was invented for them. I'd love to find out more info. Any clue guys?

                          Mine is U9000.

I am not sure color mine is, I see two dark grey colors. I went to pick some touch up paint at the store and every where I went, they were out of that color.

Car companies think it is a good use of money to rename paint colors, therefore saying they have updated the car.

Cobalt red makes no sense, blue, green or grey would make sense.
