  • How-To: Build Your Own Cold Air Intake

First, get your supplies together, this is what you will need:

    (4) zip ties (buy at wal-mart)
    (1) 3 inch 90 degree pipe (buy on e-bay
    (1) 3.5 inch coupler (buy on e-bay or http://www.hightempsilicone.com )
    (2) 4 inch clamps (buy e-bay/wal-mart or http://www.hightempsilicone.com/
    (1) Cone Air Filter(should come with a clamp) ( https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_/104 ... .y=0&Go=Go
    )

Now, as far as taking everything else apart, refer to GTPGuy82's How-To linked here:

    http://g6performance.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=899

General intake questions refer to the Sticky about Intakes located here:

    http://g6performance.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=4038

It is the same set-up as the Stage 3, except cheaper. The cost may also be offset with this home made one because this set-up only allows you to use the only 1 needed pipe instead of the 2 with the Stage 3 set-up. This will work for all V6 engines

here are some pictures. Any questions I will be happy to add.

I think they will want to know how long your 3" pipe is and where to get it.
if they cant get it....they cant do it.

K&N 3" cone can be found lots of places.

You also might want to put some foam or insulation around your
resonator hole. That way it wont cut your pipe when it moves.

      Nicely done!

So if I want a Stage 2 version, I would just need to replace the 90 degree tube with a shorter straight tube, right?

Silicon coupler off the MAF then you need a 3" round polished (not necessary to have polished but it looks cool) pipe. Length is up to you.
I would not go longer than 4" though. Then shove that into your filter.

Tighten down and you got it.

If you go that route you really should get some kind of heat shield.

This has all been discussed in the Intake Threads.

Every pipe I found on ebay was long enough they all make them about the same size, and you may need to cut a little off with a hack saw to get it to fit the right length. here is what the one I bought looks like from the ebay auction I got it from:

again, this is super super easy task.

As far as the K&N I linked to, it was the cheapest one I could find, thats why I used it.

No way will I start an intake business! I just want people to have the information so they can do it themselves, cheaper, faster.

Also, I haven't found the foam or rubber to put around the hole to protect the pipe, anyone finds something - please add!

I've been searching all over ebay looking for that tubing. If someone has a link to some that would be great. I stopped by a performance shop in town and he was high on his price. Thanks all.

do searches on ebaymotors.com of like:

                    90 degree pipe
                    intake pipe
                    90 degree 3 inch pipe

any variations of that will work!

Thanks for the tip. I kept searching last night and found someone who had 2 90deg. bends for like $30. Might get them.

I used leftover chrome strips from doing my lower grills. looks nice and work fine.
