  • Might have found a way to do Crank Relearn with no scanner.

    Hey do you guys think this will work?

    NOTE: If the Crankshaft Variation
    Relearn is not accessible through
    your scan tool (some truck
    applications 1998 & later), perform
    the relearn in the following
    manner:
    1. Turn off all of the accessories.
    With the Air temperature sensor and
    Coolant temperature within 5 degrees
    (Centigrade) of each other, start the
    engine and let it idle in Park or
    Neutral for two minutes.
    2. Accelerate the vehicle to 55 mph at
    part throttle. Cruise at 55 mph for 8-
    10 minutes until the engine reaches
    operating temperature.
    3. Cruise at 55 mph for another 5-6
    minutes.
    4. Decelerate to 45 mph without
    using the brakes, and maintain 45
    mph for 1 minute.
    5. Perform 4 deceleration cycles,
    without using the brakes, of 25
    seconds each where no specific
    speed is necessary. Returning to 45
    mph for 15 seconds in between
    deceleration cycles.
    6. Accelerate to 55 mph and cruise
    for 2 minutes.
    7. Stop the vehicle and idle for 2
    minutes with the brake applied and
    the transmission in Drive (automatic
    trans.) or Neutral (manual trans.)
    with the clutch depressed. Refer to
    diagram A on page 8.

    Do you guys think this will work ? Supposedly its for all GM vehicles.

    You can do the crank relearn without a techII scanner...

    I've seen it done and thought about doing it myself. It is much simpler then the process you describe and it is no different then when you do it WITH the scanner.....

    Doing it with the scanner guarantees you A) do it right and B) have it done.

        man i must be a newb! what is a crank relearn and what benifits does it do for you??

          If you flash your computer on your car and don't send it it you will have to do a crank relearn. It basically calibrates the crank shaft sensor with the new computer.

            crank re-learn i what you need to do after you get a vector or westers tune. which is for better performance. you wont get all the performance out of a westers or vector tune with out a crank- relearn. theres more info in the threads labled vector availiblity and westers availiblility!

                as a tech i have to do this everynow and then but when ever i need to all the tech2's in the shop are being used

                if theres a way to do it with out the scanner GM isnt telling us (very possible) and i dont know what it is

                Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

                  Mine worked after going into the bathroom with a cancle and turning
                  around three times while chanting "Mary Worth" over and over again
                  till the candle flickered.

                        Chris is prolly given up on me sending my spare one to get flashed.

                        But soon I will have this crank relearn issue. I hope this does it.

                          yeah i have the GTP too, but since i have a manual trans i had to sacrifice two small animals and a virgin while chanting some phrase in russian that i'll never know the translation to.
