Re: K&N Oil Filter

Are the K&N oil filters that much better then the stock ones from the dealer?

Re: K&N Oil Filter

The way i understand it is as such:

Anything based off of the fram design is complete and utter crap.

Anything Wix based is pretty good. Ditto on Delco, etc.

K&N is arguably the best and the best built. They are the most expensive though.

Fram usually has less filter media, a shoddy bypass valve, and cardboard endcaps.

Wix-level usually has more filter media, better bypass valve, and plastic endcaps.

K&N has a bit more filter media, Steel endcaps, and a very burly bypass valve. Plus, they're rated to something like 500psi, have a 1" hex head for removal, and through that head they have holes for a wire tie-down for racing.

Some people can't justify the added cost. Personally, i like knowing i can romp on the gas and not have the filter blow up (a la Fram) at the track.

Re: K&N Oil Filter

K&N is good, I use them on my truck. It does seem to perform a touch better than compared to my old one I used to use.

Used Fram tough guard for 6 years, never had a problem, so not sure why I hear bad things about it.
Eh, sometimes depends on the vehicle.

You probably aren't going to see much difference between Wix and K&N. I work at a parts store and no one buys the K&N oil filters, usually Wix.
