  • Tree Pitch..

I have 4 or 5 spots on my hood.. how can I get rid of them? My boyfriend says alcohol but that it'll fade the paint and I'll have to polish it and shit.. is there another way though? I'm tempted to buy a new hood.. I'm not liking my car today.

buy the mpd ram air hood while you're at it.

Yeah I would... but my mechanic friend once told me it would lower my gas mileage.. and unfortunetly I can't afford that.

I'm assuming you mean spots of tree sap?

You can try a bug and tar remover, or you can try using a clay bar.

When I put my hood on I didn't see any decrease. Also the ram air is functional so its not putting more drag on your car the air is actually going some place

unless you have a stage 3 intake, but still it really can't decrease your mpg, it's not that much of a area of drag and is not the big (the scoops that is), they are aerodynamic

Cleaning it with alcohol shouldn't harm your paint at all.

Tree sap? Dunno what pitch is...

Bug and tar remover, clay bar will work you just need to put more effort if it's a milder clay, or you can use rubbing alcohol - which won't harm your paint in any way other than remove wax.

I just have to comment-there is no way the MPD hood would decrease your gas milage to the point of financial burden! I think it's time you get a new mechanic because he is obviously very smart

It depends on what you mean by a "spot". Can you post pics of it? If its waterspots or something similar, it will take a good detail to get it off. Mild spotting can sometimes be removed by nothing more than a good simple paint cleaner/paint polish combo by hand. If its a little more serious, then you will need a mild cutting agent such as an abrasive swirl remover with a Porter Cable polisher.
