Depends what bands they use most over there.

X50... for the price it's a lot better and has better detection than the V1 in all areas except for laser detection. But you can't go wrong with either if you want a technical answer. Both are in the top tier detectors so it isn't going to be a huge difference.

There was a thread similar to this, had some good info in there so you might want to give that a read.

      Thanks Interfire

Well I can get the Escort for $180 and the Valentine for around hopefully $275 so Idk. I wish I knew what they used more in Hawaii

In that case buy the X50... even though they fixed it the V1 still has some filtering issues with their latest revisions. Even for arguments sake if we said the V1 was better, it is in no shape or form $100 (basically) worth it in gains. Save the extra money and spend it on your other mods you wanted to do.

I was actually going to ask a similar question, I was thinking about purchasing one and everyone was pretty much against the Cobras so I thought I'd give one of the above detectors a go-so you think the X50 is the way to go? I'm not sure exactly what radar/laser they're using here in AZ though?

I'm not going to go into the whole Cobra thing again last time we did it caused a big mess, but basically they just don't have the detection range that these units have... not even close. If you are the kind of person who only drives 5-10 over the limit they may be enough for you... and they may not. I look at it as I want and will buy the best protection I can for the money and a Cobra is not it.

The nice thing with the top tier detectors is they all excel in all the bands, I mean V1 has better laser detection but it is a very small difference... X50 has better Ka band but again it's not a huge gap over the other top units either.

X50 imo is the best radar detector you can buy today for the money... it even seems to perform better than their new 9500... due to maturing revisions.

I want to get a radar detector but I really don't want to stick those damn things on my windshield.

How the crap are you going to get an X50 for $180 ???

Everywhere I look they are $300+

Interfire-lol I know about the Cobra thing which is why after your input I'd like to try the escort or valentine. So in your opinion the X50 is the way to go then for a decent priced detector correct?

Also where is the best place to pick one of these up-either retail store or online?

Yeah even if we put aside the V1 as being better, for arguments sake of course. It is in not that much better for what you are going to pay. Def go with the X50, you'll love it and dealing with Escort for updates is a hell of alot easier and faster than V1... in my experience and seems to be common. I mean like I said you can't go wrong with either, or you can get the Bel model which is the same thing since they are basically the same company.

If you have a friend who works at a best buy or etc... that would be the best place if they can hook you up with a discount. Otherwise I'd check on eBay they go for pretty cheap on there should be able to get it for under $200 or close to. If you want the blue model of course it is going to cost you more.

Ya know I still havent hard wired mine in yet.
                      I would love that Escort.
Make sure you get the display in red and not blue, since it comes either way.

                          Escort is the best

Definitely buy the Escort....I've had 2 of them (1st one broke after 4 years), and the laser detection is great.

Just to chime in, another choice you might look at is the Beltronics RX-65. A former police officer called Radar Roy from http://www.radarbusters.com/ says the best he has ever tested is the RX-65. Might check it out.
