  • K&N Filters

If I'm not planning to install an intake kit, but just put a K&N filter as my next filter, would it do anything?

The main issue is not the filter so to speak. The main thing is that the stock airbox and resonator is highly restrictive therefor limits the amount of air the engine can "suck in". Placing even a K&N filter in the stock airbox is still going to be restictive but will allow for better airflow since it's a K&N filter but not nearly as free flowing as an intake will allow. The strraight lines of the intake tube and stock tubing allows for much better air flow to the engine therefor adding some gains in horsepower, not to mention the cool sound you get from it when you jump on the gas hehe

Just remove the airbox altogether and put a cone filter on the end of the MAF.

3.5 inch cone filter I believe-a 3inch is too small.

            Actually...

The sound is what I don't want.

I want my car to be nice and quiet. I was thinking of the direct fit ones, and wondering what advantage does it have over the Delco ones.

a OEM replacement K&N will flow more air but not much-with the minimal gains we see with the Stage 2 and 3 WAI/CAI respectively I doubt there would be any performance advantage over a stock paper element. The only advantage you'll have is the ability to clean the element instead of buying a new paper filter everytime they need to be changed. However if you don't want a full intake get the K&N OEM-it will pay for itself after replacing the paper after a while.

Well K&N claims the panel filters increase acceleration, are washable and reusable, and last up to 50,000 miles before cleaning is required. So you'd be gaining something.
