  • Does anyone regularly use Tap Shift?

Here's a quick survey about tap shift. I personally think it is silly because you are either driving an automatic or a manual. Not both. My Chrysler 300m had the same thing ('cept it was called auto-stick and you slap left or right instead of up or down) and I was told the only thing it was really good for was fast accelleration by not shifting at all (just gas it and the car wouldn't allow you to redline anyways) There is something really lost when you don't have that clutch foot movin in unison. We went for manual in the Mini Cooper we owned because the auto just felt gay. (Even gayer when using the tap shift) Thus is my poll:

I answered the poll even though the OP sounds like he's 12.

I use it a lot for the boost in mileage.

I'll use it a lot in traffic to keep the tranny from going in and out of 2nd, just because i'm sure all that unnecessary gear hunting will eventually wear it out...

Plus, I'll use it to downshift and engine brake. Especially on wet or snow-covered roads. The less I use the brake pedal, the more in control I am.

Once in awhile. Sometimes when at 30 MPH and want the car to fly around something ill do it becuase it'll still let me drop it into 1st then as the car will only do 2nd gear there.

Biggest complaint is theres too much lag between shifts, .5-1sec it changes gear after you hit it. However with the new mass air flow sensor I got it responds better with shifts to just .5sec but still is no good for a race. Mostly just fun to play with, I personally do like it

If you adapt your timing to compensate though, it shouldn't be too bad.

                That's the back button.

By the way, how can you improve mileage with tap shift?

Shift gears each time you are around 2500 RPMs, the PCM generally takes it up to 3-3500 depending on how your "normal" driving is. Lowwer you can keep the RPMs higher MPG

I use it alot. The acceleration is so much better in first gear. I can take it all the way up to the redline.

But I don't know about the car not allowing you to redline...there have been times when I went right to the end of that line and when I finally shifted to second the tranny jerked really nice But it's also great for merging onto highways or just for the passing lane.

Plus I'm always hearing about these things that go wrong with manual trannys like shift cables or burnt clutches so I don't have to worry about that.

Can't really add much to that.

Also, the OP is a troll, IMO. You didn't make this thread to ask opinions, you came to rant.
