  • Quick question about reception...

My sedan has the XM antenna mounted above the windshield as per the usual set-up, and I always figured GM kept it simple and routed all radio reception through there, but my stepfather's pretty convinced the normal band reception is coming in through a windshield antenna strip. As of yet, though, I can't find it at all.

Anyone shed some light on this? It's not really important, but I wanna know!

Yes it is inside the rear window, the XM antenna is just for that - XM. You may notice 2 lines running down the back window, that's what it is.

Check out the rear windshield. Some of those defroster lines might be the antenna.

The XM antenna on these things is actually very good, they have great C/N and BER % values connected to the sats. I've never had any problems with reception.

But yeah the regular radio sucks, but I am glad the antenna is in the rear window. I've probably listened to it only a couple times, but with XM I could care less if it was good or bad.

I mainly listen to XM, but I get pretty good reception on everything. All of you under warranty, take it to your dealer and say the reception is terrible. I did with mine (the AM reception was horrific), and they ordered me an amplifier for free. Took an hour to install when it came in, and it's been crystal ever since.

                          Seriously???

Do you happen to have that service writeup handy? I'd be curious to see the part number for that amplifier...

Power radio antenna module, it's what they replaced on mine when I brought it in reporting poor reception and crackling speakers when on AM. The service write-up declared my original module as having a short.
