  • A little help here..

My stereo has been kind of funny for the past few days. I have a speaker in my door that at times sounds perfect, and at other times sounds very weak compared to the rest of the speakers. It'd be the woofer, as the tweeter seems to constantly put out the proper level of sound.

The fact that it works fine sometimes is kind of throwing me off. I assume that the woofer and tweeter are both hooked into a crossover somewhere, but I have no idea where.

I'm trying to determine where I should look for a cracked wire. I have an aftermarket stereo, with stock speakers, so there's no chance of getting the dealership to fix it.

    Any suggestions?

Put the stock deck back in and take it to the dealer? That's the first thing that popped into my head. It sounds like a bad connection somewhere but chasing it down could be pretty difficult.

Well you can just chech the connection of the wires behind the deck. Sometime they arent cremped right or not sodered properly and that could be the prob.

I'd pull out your deck and check the connections in the back, did you crimp or solder? Most people and places crimp which is where most of the problems are, that is what I would check first.

But if it was a connection behind the deck, wouldn't both speakers in the door be on the fritz?

Limited continuity means that he might be getting some juice but not the optimum or proper amount of juice. He might get enough of a connection to make the tweet run but the 6.5 is limited. This is just what I would do for the first step. It that isn't it then we can go from there. Troubleshooting sucks sometimes but you gotta do it. This is the simplest step he could do as of now.

I soldered the connections when I put the deck in. I'll take another look at that, as it's possible that I cracked the solder connection for one of those speaker wires when I put my XM reciever in.

I'll let you guys know the results once I've had a chance to do it. It's going to be -1 here today, so I may not venture out there.
