  • Modern Muscle Cars vs. New Age Imports

How about some opinions.. Which will come out on top? Which will be a total flop?? Here's a few to get started.. add any other cars that you may think of.

    2007 Nissan Skyline GT-R
The Tokyo grapevine reports that the 2007 production car will have a twin-turbo V-6 engine displacing about 3.8 liters and producing somewhere between 400 and 500 hp.

    2007 Ford Mustang Shelby GT500
The GT500 uses a 5.4-liter engine, supercharged for an estimated 450 hp and 450 lb-ft of torque, hooked up to a six-speed manual gearbox. Though recent numbers are reporting closer to 500hp.

    2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X
Power will continue to come from a 2.0-liter turbo four, but output will push past the current Subaru WRX STI's 300-hp rating.

    2009 Chevrolet Camaro
Power should be 400 horses from the LS2 6.0-liter V-8 engine thats mated to a 6 speed manual transmission

    2008 Dodge Challenger
It is fitted with a 6.1-liter Hemi engine, which delivers 425 hp at 6200 rpm and 420 lb-ft of torque at 4800 rpm. The Hemi V8 will be mated to a 6 speed manual.

    2008 BMW M3
Expect the new, high-revving V-8 to displace 4.0 liters and to share its basic architecture with the M5's V-10. The last M3 made do with "only" 333 hp, but the new M3 should have more than 400 ponies.

The new Evo and Skyline are SEXY. I think they will be big hits. Considering the Skyline is FINALLY looking like it will make an American release, the hype from years of it being "forbidden" will alone carry it. The Evo will do well simply because it is continuing to improve while Subaru is making a joke out of the WRX.

I've never liked Mustangs in any form, nor Challengers. That Camaro has potential though, even if it does look a bit....naked I guess I'd say.

These next few years should be REALLY interesting

That Skyline is pretty hot! Except it looks like a die-cast toy in that picture.

I think the Camaro will do well, except that the hype that is building up to its release may create unrealistic expectations.

The Challenger is pretty blah. And I never liked Mustangs.

What the hell happened to the M3's styling? What a tragedy....

Yea, the new M3 is characterless and looks as flimsy as a Hyundai, imo. They really screwed up there. M3 used to look like a tank.

I bet you all of those cars are faster than the mustang shelby. The import makers know how to make light, powerful cars. You know the muscle cars are gonna be 3500+lbs probably. Way too much weight.

In my opinon, the V8 is only for prestage anymore. The future modern mussle car is going to be lighter and stronger bodies with high output V6s and and 4cly turbos. Except for work trucks which the V6 and 4cly turbos cant produce the high torque reqired for towing and those for sometime will be V8s. Even at that, RWD is fun but not effecent. The newer cars with all the 4cly turbos and HO V6s are going to stay FWD and AWD. For the most part, there is again not much reason with todays technology a need for RWD and V8s except in work trucks.

Tell me what you need a V8 for anymore that a V6 or 4cly turbo cant produce esp with lighter and stronger bodies are coming out with?

make your fucking 4 cylinder sound like an LS7 and we'll talk

personally i hope the camaro bombs cause i don't want to see them driving around . with all the success the 350Z and G35 have had i expect the Skyline to sell really well. and despite everyone on here saying the Evo is overpriced people will still buy them. it does look a little eclipse-ish but it has a nice mean look to it.

I wont debate that . Am not saying trash the V8. I personally cant wait to get another foxbody t-bird and put a 5.0L or a 351C. Just saying what I think the modern mussle car is slowly turning into. Except for higher end cars such as the Corvette ect I think the V8 is going to slowly get phased out of all cars under low to mid 30K cars. The most sucessful mustang in the V6 mustang.

yeah that would be unfortunate. the new impala and it's cousins with the V8 have displacement on demand or active power management or whatever they are now calling it. it was cool to drive cause you could watch it switch from 4 to 8 cylinders on the fly....best of both worlds. personally i think they should be putting V8s in everything but i know i am probably in the minority with gas prices the way they are
