  • Polk Audio Rear Deck speaker question. (Picture Update 12/29)

I installed Polk Audio Speakers in my rear deck on the sedan. There is music coming out of it but the bass on it is almost non existant. Is it because the amp doensn't put out enough watts? Or did i do something wrong with the wiring. The speakers have a coverter that convert the four wires into two, and i have two stray wires that arent attached to anything. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated! Have a happy New Year!

which Polks did you buy? Do you have pics? More specifically, pics of this thing that converts the wires. I think I may have some ideas.

Re: Polk Audio Rear Deck speaker question.

I bought the DXi 690 6X9 speakers. The crossover( i said it was a converter in the previous post) looks like a a small cylinder probably the circumference of a pretzel stick, and is located on the speaker. For both of the speakers i have a negative and positive running to the speakers, and two stray wired just chillin. I assume i need an amp. Which is gonna suck really bad.

          Here are some pictures.

This is my connection from the stock wiring to the speakers. The colors from left to right:

Blue with White stripe; Yellow; Brown; Green with Brown stripe

Here is the crossover (the tube looking thing) i was talking about that takes it from the stock "four wires" and turns it into two.

Any help would be amazing thanks!

Re: Polk Audio Rear Deck speaker question.

I have no doubt you'll need all four of those speaker wires to be connected to get it working properly. Did you make sure you have a positive and negative running to speaker ans not 2 positives or 2 negatives?

Yes, when we connected a positive and negative to each cable we had feedback. I just went to best buy and talked with some of the guys that work in the car audio department and they said that i would have to get a new headunit if i wanted to use an aftermarket amp to make the speakers work properly. Is this true? Or are they just trying to blow smoke up my butt to make me buy more stuff than i need. I appreciate the response Dmanj. I just hate how the monsoon speakers are so good and 4 years later they are complete crap.

Im sorry for being so persistant guys, but this speaker issue is really bothering me. i wish there was some walk through on how to set these speakers up right without having to get a new headunit.

Re: Polk Audio Rear Deck speaker question.

Those speakers are not meant to go in that application. the round thing is a bass blocker, like a crossover, it keeps low frequencies from going to the tweeter part. To do it right, you need components for your car. Which wires are you using, the ones that went to the original tweeters or the woofer? There is a way to make that speaker work, but it would be pretty ghetto. You would have to connect the wires that went to the stock woofer to the new speaker woofer and remove the bass blocker (because the channel is already crossed over at the amp, hence the two separate sets of wires) and connect the wires that went to the stock tweeter, to the one on the aftermarket tweeter. Infinity makes a Kappa series 6x9 that has a real cross over on it that you could just cut off and have the two separate sets of wires without further mods to the speaker. The alternative would be to buy a 6.5in component set and the brackets that hold the 6.5in woofer and the separate tweeter in the 6x9 spot.

Also, you don't have to change out the head unit.

I also wanted to add that the factory monsoon woofers are 2ohm and the tweeters are 4ohm. The Polks are 4ohm.

Re: Polk Audio Rear Deck speaker question.

I have the kappas mention by black07g6gtp and I just used the stock harness from the speakers and attached them to my speakers. But if you have the monsoon system, you do need some speakers you can splice the stock wires into since 2 of the wires are for the tweeter and 2 for the woofer in the stock setup.

@adespain, I was debating between the 3-ways like you have and the 2-ways. Those don't have too much highs do they? I wonder how much the sound would differ.

The highs sound great. Nothing overbearing or piercing. I wouldn't know if there is a difference between 3way and 2 way, but the sound is better than stock.
