Identifying G6s by Year

This could be an ongoing thread, just to keep track of the visual changes on different MYs so it's easier to identify the year of a G6 when you see one on the street (given that the appearance has not been modified):

2005
- Radio and HVAC controls do not have chrome
- No GM badge
- 4-spoke steering wheel
- Only year Sport Red available (darker than Crimson Red)
- Trunk badging is flat

2006
- Coupes and convertibles have moulding along the side of doors
- First year with GM Badge
- Last year base with 16" alloy wheel available
- Last year Stealth Gray Metallic and Fusion Orange available
- First year GTP available
- Only year with GTP seat embroidery
- Only year with GTP convertible

2007
- Blue-gold Crystal Metallic available, only year convertibles with this colour
- Coupes and convertibles have no moulding on doors
- First year base with 17" vented wheels (also on base V6 in Canada)
- First year GT coupes and sedans with 18" alloy wheels and dual exhaust
- First year base V6 with 17" alloy wheels (US only, Canada optional)
- Last year Granite Metallic, Crimson Red, Electric Blue available
- Last year Morroco Leather available
- Last year for Panoramic Sunroof
- Last year for all GTP models

2008
- First year for GXP models, unique front and rear fascias
- First year with factory body-coloured mirrors on GXP models
- First year Performance Red Metallic, Midnight Blue Metallic, Dark Steel Gray Metallic, White Diamond Tricoat, and Carbon Black Metallic available
- Last year Emerald Green Metallic, Sedona Beige Metallic, Black, Liquid Silver Metallic and Ivory White available
- Majority of GT sedans have spoilers (except for very early builds)
- Radio has AUX jack
- New wiper blade hook design (not squeeze-release)
- Last year painted 18" flangeless wheels available
- New style 18" Chrome-Tech wheels available (GXP and GT Convertible with PDX Only)
- First year for GT Street Package, unique front and rear fascias
- Last year 16" wheel covers available
- Last year for Value Leader Sedan
- Last year Chrome Appereance Package available as dealer accessory
- Last year for Power Adjustable Pedals

2009
- First year 17" standard across the line
- First year convertibles with 18" Chrome-Tech wheels
- First year for Quicksilver Metallic, Summit White, Gold Mist Metallic, and Silver Green Metallic
- First year for base 4-cylinder models with Driver Shift Control (look at the gear shifter)
- All cars now have XM radio standard (look for the XM dimple antenna)
- First year for base 4-cylinders to get leather seats
- GT/GXP models get dimming compass mirror standard
- Cruise control no longer standard (missing buttons from steering wheel)

What do you have the 3900 GT option? Just saying that becuase I dont think the 3500 does have dual exhaust just single still

Thats why you have the dual exhaust. Becuase GM changed the GTP motor to the 3.6L and not the 3900 in 07. So it still has the dual exhuast package becuase it has the 3900. You pretty much have a 2006 GTP just with out the GTP badge and GTP inprent on the leather seats. The 2006 GT only had the 3500 and thats why it does not have the dual exhaust becuase the 3500 doesnt come with that option. So if you got the 3500 base GT you wouldnt have dual exhaust then if am making sense. lol

edit: Thats also an easy way to tell if the GT has the 3500 or the 3900 in it also, am going to stop blabbering now

A little more info about the 2007 GT 3900 option is if you like to know...... If you just got the coupe which is lighter and the 6spd manaul option. The 2007 GT 3900 is faster then the 2006 GTP 3900 becuase the 07 GT 3900 6spd has better/ more aggressive gear ratio, also about 3K cheaper. Sucks for us 06 GTPs good for the 07 GT 3900s lol

Hahaha, Thanks! You prob can blame me for that . It started with him saying the 07 GT converts have dual exhaust and the 06 doesnt. Thats when I explained that the GT convert only has dual exhaust becuase its a 06 GTP pretty much and the 07 GT base still has single exhaust though

Convertible with GTP badge on trunk lid = 2006 only.

2006 GTPs have "GTP" emblem in seats and 2007 do not.

You can get seat mounted side airbags in 2007.

I have seat mounted airbags on the side of my seats and it an 06.

Am glad my 06 GTP, has the GTP inprints on the seats, I LOVE that so much about my car. Would have hated getting an 07 and not having the inprints on the seat, makes no sence really not having them anymore

My bad, I thought the 06 side airbags were head only, not seat mounted too.
