Double Din GPS Unit

Is what i want to install in the wife's car.

I dont care if I lose the DIC as the only thing she ever uses is the DTE and she has a gauge for that. I only plan to keep the car a year or two til we have more kids, so I want to know if I can use something other that the 150 dollar scosche or metra kit tht retains the DIC. I want to use the aftermarket double din until we trade it and then I will reinstall the factory. Is there a simple cheaper harness that will allow this?

You can get adapters for like $30 for the g6 that dont retain the DIC. I dont know what they are called, but my local shop had them so im sure a shop in your town will have some.
