  • Camaro might go on a diet next round with new platform

Yes, the long rumoured higher volume Alpha.

    http://www.autoblog.com/2010/02/05/repo ... -platform/

If only Pontiac was around. Pontiac should've got this platform, and should've been destined for the G6 for a downsize to get rid of the goddamn G5. And since the ATS will shre this platform, you know there will be an ATS-V with a V8, then get someone to drop that V8 into the resulting RWD G6 and Leon will have to shit a brick.

With only the Camaro and ATS I really can't see that big of a volume, compared to a Pontiac.

Re: Camaro might go on a diet next round with new platform

Zeta is good but it was a bad thing to go with for the Camaro. For the G8.. it was perfect! However.. the Camaro weighed 200+lbs more than the GTO on its "old" V-Body platform.. and gained 20hp which offset it and makes it just as "fast" as a 5 year old GTO. A big flip on GM part. If Pontiac was around still... Zeta would make more sense.

They were supposta make the next genoration G8's on the same factory as the Camaro, both Zeta, and it was going to be further revised and tweaked here. It was supposta spawn the Wagon and Ute, and also another GTO Coupe60 version as well.. but they nixed all that.

The new 5.0's are coming with 400hp now.. which you might find as same at the GTO's LS2 6.0L.. however the Mustangs are a good ~500lbs or so I heard lighter. Power to weight makes it win. And the Camaro with its 420hp can't compete, so it needs to downsize and shrink.

This new platform SHOULD be awesome. Knowing GM's R&D process though, you never know how it's going to turn out..
