  • ILLINOIS TINT LAW CHANGE - EFFECTIVE 11/30/09

    Fellow wrongly-persecuted IL residents,

    It seems our Nazi state has finally come to grips with the archaic and ridiculous policy of not allowing a single percentage of tint on the front windows of automobiles.

    HB3325 has proposed the following changes;

    35% tint all around except on windshield or at most 50% tint on front windows if rears are tinted darker than 35%.

    Click here for HB3325

    It has been accepted

    AND

    What was changed...

    625 ILCS 5/12-503

    Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a non-reflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. Deletes an exemption to certain window obstruction provisions for motorvehicles manufactured prior to January 1, 1982. Prohibits the use of reflective material on the front windshield and side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver for persons afflicted with or suffering from a medical illness, ailment, or disease which would require that person to be shielded from the direct rays of the sun. Provides that it is a petty offense for an installer who installs window treatment for a person with a medical condition to fail to obtain and store a copy of a doctor's certificate or letter from the person with medical condition in the installer's permanent records.

    625 ILCS 5/3-412

    Replaces everything after the enacting clause. Amends the Illinois Vehicle Code to provide that a person may drive a motor vehicle with a non-reflective material tinted film that does not allow less than 50% light transmittance(Or less than 35% light transmittance if the windows to the rear of the driver already have certain window treatment applied) upon the side windows immediately adjacent to each side of the driver. Deletes a front windo exemption to certain persons afflicted with or suffering from a medical illness, ailment, or disease. Deletes an exemption to certain window obstruction provisions for motorvehicles manufactured prior to January 1, 1982. Provides that it is a petty offense for a first offense and a class C misdemeanor for a second offense for an installer to install window treatment on motor vehicles that do not have specified license plates or stickers. Effective immediately.

    Translation: You may now tint your car in Illinois with non-reflective tint that does not allow less than a light transmittance of 50% all the way around, unless you already have the back tinted. Then it requires minimum light transmittance of not less than 35%.

    All of you illegals (Tint only) just got ratified!
