  • Pano-roof rattle?

i have an 05' g6 gt sedan w/ the panoramic sunroof
and i just had a couple of questions about it....
any help would be greatly appreciated!

    1) is driving on the highway (or just fast in general) with it open going to affect the sunroof?
    2) is it supposed to rattle a little bit when you go over bumps and such?
    3) where can you find the weather stripping for it? ( mine doesnt "leak" ... just when i pressure wash my car a few drops of water drip in )

please do keep in mind this is my new car so i listen to EVERY little sound my car makes and freak out about it ... just looking for peace of mind

    thanks!

    1) I have one and it doesn't rattle at all. I usually do 75+ on the highway
2)I haven't had a rattling problem at all with mine
3)Where do those drops of water go to?

I have one and it rattles all the time when going over bumps and stuff. And I don't think leaving it open while driving at high speeds will affect it.

its not like a terrible rattle, just enough for me to notice it
        maybe im just parinoid?

and it drips from inbetween the 2nd and 3rd panels
        ... not much at all
        just a few drops max
usually i notice a drip or two on my center console after i give her a bath

The pano roofs are noisy and it's fine to drive it on the highway with it open. My 05 GT sedan had one and I really liked it but it was noisy and only leaked a couple of drops in the high pressure car wash. I don't know about any fixes for that. Enjoy the new to you car.

The rattles aren't "normal" but when you get the issue corrected it is only short lived. Get used to it unfortunately. My dad's 05 sedan rattles like a can of spray paint and he's given up on getting it fixed because it keeps coming back (and it's no longer under warranty so each fix will cost $$$).

                .... hence why i put "normal" ...

                  Re: Pano-roof rattle?

the rattles are just the nature of the beast. they could probly get rid of them but odds are theyll come back

as far as water getting in in the high pressure water dont worry about it. they arent designed to hold back high pressure water like that just normal rain water.

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

                    Re: Pano-roof rattle?

Mine only rattles when it's open and it's above 75 degrees outside. Other than that, it doesn't rattle. I will get a rubbing noise if I don't use a silicone lubricant on the rubber seals though. The dealership I take mine to uses a 3M silicone lubricant to cut down on the rubbing noise.

I ride with my open on the highway at 75mph all the time and it's never caused a problem with mine. I won't ride with it any faster with that or against strong head winds when going 75mph. When the wind hits the back panels, it causes them to vibrate. Vibrations eventually lead to loose screws and bolts so I avoid it when I can.

ahuhn is correct about the pressure wash. The manual will even tell you that if you have a sunroof of any kind, don't use pressure washing around the seals. I don't know of a single manufacturers who doesn't warn about using pressure washers on sunroofs and convertibles.

If you live in a town where there are a few GM dealerships, I would suggest finding one who has someone who knows these sunroofs. I have one here in Tulsa with a tech who knows our sunroofs and does awesome work on them. When I need work done on it, I take it to him. For other work, I take it to the most convenient dealership.

Mine doesn't rattle at all or leak at all. Only a little wind noise at high speeds. That is cured by closing the shade or the little dial on the stereo .

It does sort of creak a bit when I am driving over bumps or in my lawn and the car torques any, but that is to be expected with that much glass and rubber up there. All in all love it. One of my favorite things about my car!
