  • How-To Hardwire Radar

1st remove fuse panel cover, becareful its held on by 2 pacthes of velco. One on the upper right which is held together pretty tight the 2nd piece is on the bottom in the middle. Once those are detached you can slide it out to the right.

    Thats the hardest part.

Run your wire how you like since im not interested in ripping apart the dash so i ran it down on the right side of the radio. There is a lip between the center console and dash and with a flathead wrapped in tape you can push in between those for a cleaner look.

You can do the same trick with the flathead and continue down the glove box, make sure you open the glove box. Bring the wire behide the edge of the panel and now you have your wire at the fuse box.

Now you have your ground and power wire.

The ground was simple while looking at the fuse box in the lower left side corner there is a little black bolt you can loose'n it a little bit and put the ground wire between the bolt and washer.

The power was tricky nothing lost power when the car turned off radio, adjustable pedals nothing. I found that the heated seats did and i attached the wire to that fuse and the radar was woking perfect.

dont know what to use if you dont have the heated seats but the fuse should still be there. So thats it hope it helps if anyone else decides to do this.

    Sorry for not taking pics.

I dont have the heated seats but the fuse is still in there... dont have any clue why...

But yeah i have done a lot of work down in there; I just hooked up a music interface the other day and got that all going... I also run my neon wires down through that area.

I used to have my radar detector hardwired with a switch and a wire from the battery. That way I could turn it on and off when I pleased.

yeah, you can tap into any of the fuses in the car. Just don't tap into the fuse for OnStar, because OnStar is supposed to work even when the car is off, so the device you are trying to hard wire, will never turn off. And you can wire in a switch even if you're getting power from the fuse box. Saves you from running wire all the way through the firewall. Pretty silly to have 900 cables running to your battery for any custom work you do.

well in my goat i hook'd it up to the radio.

The radio fuse didnt work on the G6 the radar stayed on. theres alot of spare fuses that might work i guess you really have to play around but, im sure the heated seats fuse turns on & off with the car.

a neat little gadget I found at a parts store is kinda like a piggyback-I actually was going to invent this then I found it

Anyways you take a fuse out, put the stock fuse in the front slot then put whatever fuse you need for whatever your installing in the rear slot, then there is a wire tha runs off the fused rear slot for whatever you need. I found this little buy at AutoZone.

Ok I guess I'm a retard, but where do I tie into the fuse? Can anybody that's done a mod like this in tieing into the fuse box take a picture, does the wire just shove down then you stick the fuse in?

yep!! normally i wrap the wire around the one tooth on the fuse then jam it in.

ehhhh I'd rather splice into a wire.

I would rather use a quick splice and you can run it up in the dash and even install an inline fuse for added protection if you'd like too...

I found the perfect place for the SmartCord indicator lights. Since I don't have power adjustable pedals, the slot to the left of my interior lights dimmer was free. I had to do a little filing to get it to fit right, but other than that it looks like it was made for it!

Had to file down the piece that fits over the dummy.

Had to file the back some to get the circuit board to fit. Used a hot melt glue gun to get it to stay in place.

Finished look. Need to add new adhesive to the label, it won't stay on the bottom.

My starting point was a thread I found about a similar install on an Audi.

I did the same thing they did, used the lighter plug instead of paying 30 bucks+ for a direct-wire smartcord. Figured I might as well try, I was going to hardwire it whether I had to buy the direct-wire kit or not.

I used the heated seats fuse like previously mentioned. I found some of the fuse taps at Radio Shack, but they didn't fit right so I had to break off half the tab and jam it in anyway. Might as well have just soldered the wire to the fuse. I dunno, maybe there is another size for the mini fuses.
