  • Considering Switch to Synthetic ATF

So, I'm coming up on 30k and run the car hard, a lot, so I was considering switching to Mobil 1 Synthetic ATF. Any experiences, good or bad? Suggestions, warnings? Thanks!

Any particular reason? I mean, I regularly throw her up into 6k RPM's and want to make sure it's protected. Will switching have no impact on that?

Well for one its already synthetic and Dexron IV is actually a damn good fluid They are basically filled for the life of the trans under normal use so ~100,000K so I'd say if you are ragging on it change it at ~75,000.

Did you mean Dexron VI (6)? And I thought only the manuals were lifetime fluids because it's recommended to change the automatic fluid at 50k miles...

Yeah I'm dyslexic LOL If you have a 6 speed IE 6T70 you should have Dex VI which should be a factory for life fill

Re: Considering Switch to Synthetic ATF

Mobil 1 makes a Dex VI which i use in my car. granted i have the 3.5 but thats what it calls for is dex VI. i have changed mine twice and filter twice, once at 30 and again at 60. everytime i change it the shifting improves. and i dont believe in "Lifetime Fluid" everytime i change it, its always burnt and brown. if they made a "lifetime" oil, would you use it? or believe it? IMO i wouldnt go past 50k without changing it.

dealerships concept of lifetime is that its good until it breaks and then thats the life of it, which could be anytime length.
its might just be a family sedan, but girls love this car

You also have an old 4 speed design that wasn't designed around that fluid, the 6L/6T can easily go 75K without a fluid change in a non performance environment. If your trans fluid is ALWAYS burnt you've got other issues unfortunately
