i'd take the tin foil off the intake though

It's aluminized heat shielding. Blocks 90%+ of the heat from the engine.

well, I've just installed it, so haven't gotten to check, but it SHOULD be considerably cooler, yes. It is a material for insulating parts on drag cars.
