      Re: Thermostat replacement?

All the time on my GTO.....Its not for me. I was just asked by a member if we had one.
He said he was having trouble accessing it....clearance maybe?

Anyway I figured someone has to have done it on the G6 and it would be good
to have in our HOW TO database. So I figured it didnt hurt to ask.

gotcha. yea i have never really looked for it on my car. normally its just 2-3 bolts to pop the cover up and remove it. must be a clearence issue, if it wasnt so cold out id go check it out. what motor is it for?

          Re: Thermostat replacement?

Not sure which engine he has. Ill ask.

...well first i will list the diagnosis for any one else having similar problem then they will know what to do.
Check engine light came one (error code 12 and the inside temp gauge would not work. work what i mean by that you would have the original turn over engine to start the intail restart one the gauge would work, but when driving for a while and knowing that the temp of car should be a lot hotter than 0.
And then sometime the temp gauge would work while driving and engine light would turn off.
Thermostat replacement and or the temp sensor replacement
most generally the thermostat is only thing wrong with it.. But i purchased both just in case.
Thermostat location bottom hose the housing should have only 2 bolts to take off.
But here is the problem i cannot fit my hand down in there to get the first bolt and do not know what size fits it? I cannot get my hands down there to get wrench or a deep-well socket on there to get it off, I need some help and or suggestions on how to get it off of there.
The second bolt i cannot see from the top or the bottom of the car.
So any and all help with this would be greatly appreciated

            Re: Thermostat replacement?

ok well if the temp gauge is not working than it cant be the thermostat itself, the car would overheat and all that jazz. sounds like the temp sensor or an electrical thing to me. replacing the thermostat will not fix the problem that they are saying that they have.

and i have no clue what motor they are talking about in that description.

                Re: Thermostat replacement?

yea but it would still read something wouldnt it? the temp gauge starts reading at 100 degrees so the motor has to get a little warmer then that you'd think

                      p0128 is 9 times outta 10 a bad tstat

to replace it you have to remove the thermostat housing which is typicaly on the engine where the radiator hose connects to it. then theres 2 bolts to undo (probly 13 mm) remove tstat install new and refill with coolant

not knowing year or engine its hard to give exacts

Remember if "the" and "and" are spelled right its not a genuine Ahuhn post

Usually the T stat housing is on the upper radiator (or return) hose the one that wrings coolant OUT of the engine
