  • How to wire up an aftermarket sub amp.

I did not take any pictures of the ground connection, frankly i just forgot. But i did find a bolt on a steel bracket behind the left rear seat. I beleive it is one of the brackets that holds the rear seat to the car. There were (2) bolts beside each other and they were both 10mm. If you have any problems finding a good ground please let me know and i will take pics. Also if some of these pictures are to small, let me know and i will email you full sized pictures. Hope this helps someone!! :smoke:

Very nice! So the power cable for the amp wasn't connected to the battery itself? What is that circled in the pic exactly?

No it is not connected directly to the battery. It is bolted down with a factory bolt that holds down the factory wire that connects the battery to the fuse panel. Due to the side connections on our factory batteries it is much easier and safer to run off of this post on the fuse panel. If you try to connect you power wire by slicing a grove into the factory seal on the battery you take a chance of making a bad connection between the battery and the rest of the car, which could cause you problems down the road ie.. starting, ect.... I hope this make sense.

Hmm...I should just pick up an Optima yellow top sometime in the future.

That would do the trick as long as the post on the battery are easily accessable.

I'm curious as to what that wire is on the right side of your fuse box. I connected the power wire to the left-side post on my fuse box like you, but there was nothing at all on the right side, no post, no wire, nothing. Any ideas?

Sorry it took so long for me to get back to you, but i just seen your post. I just took a quick look here at work. All i can tell it is it runs straight down to something underneath the fuse box. If i get a chance this weekend i will take a closer look to see where exactly it is connected to. And the only other thing i noticed was that there is a ground wire that runs in the same sleeve as that wire. It all confuses me

                    drill-less power & cheap wire

I recently bought a G6 and was wiring up my subs using this as a guide. I usually don't do much posting but thought I'd throw out my $.02 for the budget people in this case.

I'm posting this here because I was able to push the wire through an existing gromet without drilling a hole. In the 4th picture, the 2 heavy cables wrapped together (white tag on them) go through the firewall in the right bottom of the picture. I was able to feed my power wire through here without too much effort - definitely didn't rip, tear, or break the existing gromet. I used the wire described in the next paragraph, so if yours is bigger, it might not go through.

For Power wire, I always go to home depot racing or lowes performance and buy 6 ga 'thin strand' electrical wire. it's <$1 per foot, has a hard casing, is oil, gas and heat resistant and is decently flexible (9 or so solid copper strands). I've run about 400W rms previously and never had problems with the stuff.

I'm running 2 budget jbl 12"s that i paid $50 for and had for 8 years and powering them with a MTX Blue Thunder 1500 (350W). I'm just using the speaker level input on the amp - bridged mono. My overall install cost with power wire, ground wire, hookup wire and connectors was <$10. (fuse, amp, boxes, speakers from previous car).

Otherwise the rest of this how-to was great, thanks!

^I also got my 4 gauge power wire through the existing gromet...with blood, sweat & nearly tears to boot. Vaseline works well to keep the wire from sticking to the gromet-just use it cautiously or you'll gum up something

Hey Toyz; could you provide the pos & neg wire colors for a base '06 V6? My subs work, but I want to double check that they are both hooked up right. I don't remember for certain, but I think that the left speaker's wires were differant colors than the right one's
