  • Bumper cover DIY repair, opinions/advice needed.

I have been working on getting the huge dent out of my bumper cover that some nice lady gave me two weeks into owning the car. I got most of it out except some small deformations and a nice sized crease.

Been looking on youtube at some how too's and it honestly looks doable. Just looking for any advice or tips before I dive head first into it. If all else fails I buy a new cover.. Figure I would take this time and try to save either $800 for a body shop to do it or $400 me ordering a pre painted cover and installing it myself.

    Getting a little better.

This is the main part that I am a little unsure about how will be the best way of fixing.

carefull use of a heat gun? and youll prob have to sand down the crack and use some sort of bumper repair compound or plastic weld it, and repait it......if you end up getting a new cover, dont thro that one out im not sure about the rears but there are NONE, ZERO front bumpercovers available new from GM anymore, any front cover you get now will be used/repaired.....

I am going to do what I can with the heat gun to straighten most of it out but it's creased pretty bad. The picture doesn't show it but it makes an indention about 3/8" or more deep. Im thinking I will have to use a router bit to take some material away at the crack to allow the cover to flatten if it doesn't as it is.

I think 3M 4240 Duramix Semi-Rigid Plastic Repair is the right stuff I will need. I am pretty sure I can do the body work but blending the metallic paint back in will be fun. I'll probably just paint the whole bumper and hope the color match is dead on.

I think I am going to go junk yard cruising if the new covers are all gone. Wouldn't hurt to pick up a good used one before demand catches up with supply lol. I wouldn't mind picking up one or two donor cars, especially one with the ram air hood until I can get my custom hood built.

You should be able to find the color for your car pretty easily.

          Looks pretty good. Thanks!
The prices aren't bad at all but I didn't know there was 3 or 4 different carbon flash metalics so I need to find my paint code. I know it's in the glove box on a sticker among a whole bunch of jumbled codes lol

There are a couple spots that need touched up on the car and I am tossing around the thought of putting a red pearl coat over the whole car. Not heavy but just enough to stand out a bit. The factory clear is just so thin to begin with and I want to protect the paint since it scratches so easily.

Exterior paint code is last one on the bottom by itself. I work for a shop that does bumper repairs and that is repairable for sure. I don't do the repaors, our painter does, but I know a little. Take the cover off, sand it down a little focusing on the affected area, use body filler to fill the holes and get it close. Hand sand it smooth, prime and paint. If it is cracked through you will need to use something to repair it. what you mentioned might work. Be careful pitting it back on. Don't flex it to much. Don't try to blend it. Unless you are really really good it never looks right.

ISimple Ipod adapter, Heat wrapped Injen, CRABs Option 3, ?% Tint, 6000K HIDs,GT-R, Tinted Tails, Rear badge delete, Plastidiped grills and front dart, Brembos, Pulse p5 17"s, racingline MMIs

Thanks. I'll give it a shot. The stuff I linked before is supposed to take the place of Bondo and stay a little flexable just for these bumpers. I guess we will see how it works. The way I see it.. it's already broken so I will just be back where I started if it looks like hell. lol
