  • Squeaky steering wheel

Hey everybody i have noticed that my steering wheel squeaks(not clunks) when parking or turning at low speeds. I have taken off the steering wheel column cover but it seems to be coming from where the top of the steering column attaches to the steering wheel. I haven't taken the airbag out for fear of deploying it but does anyone have a clue what the hell the problem could be because although not a major problem it really pisses me off.

          Re: Squeaky steering wheel

Yeah it sounds like its comming from the steering wheel. I've read that it could be the sir coil but that was in other cars could that pertain to the 6?

            Re: Squeaky steering wheel

My GFs torrent GXP had same EXACT thing, rack-n-pinnon was bad and sway bar links. Hers wasn annyoing as hell, with radio off just squeeked away at low speeds, sounded like it was the oming from the steering colum inside the cabin.

I dont know if steering is power train or not. GM, prob not unfortianlly.

That I don't know I just bought mine in Dec and it had a certified GM warranty so it was covered!

It seems to be worst when its cold out and almost goes away when its over 70 degrees.

                      Just a quick update:
I ran across this video on youtube that shows the exact squeak in my steering (possible some of yours)
Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Obviously this isn't my car, but it replicates the exact sound.

So you guys let me know if you've heard this?!

                      Thanks

Ive always had this and it pretty much describes what everyone else is saying. Im not gonna pay to get it fixed because its not worth it unless I can fix it myself easily.
