  • Key Fob Battery Low

Everytime I walk near my car with my key fob the alarm goes off and sometimes I can't get it to stop. Well in my car when it's turned on the DIC says my key fob battery is low.

My question is can I replace the battery myself or do I have to go to the dealership?

    Re: Key Fob Battery Low

    It's a DIY!

Exerpt from my owners manual (2006 G6):

    "Battery Replacement
Under normal use, the battery in your remote keyless
entry transmitter should last about four years.
You can tell the battery is weak if the transmitter will not
work at the normal range in any location. If you have
to get close to your vehicle before the transmitter works,
it is probably time to change the battery.
The KEY FOB BATT LOW message in the vehicle’s
DIC will display if the remote keyless entry transmitter
    battery is low.
Notice: When replacing the battery, use care not
to touch any of the circuitry. Static from your body
transferred to these surfaces may damage the
    transmitter.

To replace the battery in the remote keyless entry
    transmitter do the following:
    1. Insert a flat object, with a thin edge, into the notch
located below the vehicle locator/panic alarm button,
and separate the bottom half from the top half of the
    transmitter.
    2. Remove the battery and replace it with the new one.
Make sure the positive (+) side of the battery faces
up. Use one three-volt, CR2032, or equivalent,
    type battery.
    3. Put the two halves back together. Make sure the
cover is on tight, so water will not get inside the
    transmitter.
    4. Test the operation of the transmitter with the vehicle."

Pop the key fob open, its easy just look at the side and youll see two parts where you can get a screwdriver in and they just pop appart. Throw a new CR2032 from Radio Shack or any place that sells watch batteries in. Just slides out.

I think the most popular acronym in the Linux world applies today:

        RTFM.

        Sorry, I had to.

Sorry guys all the cars I've owned up to now did not have a manual so I didn't even think about that. Thanks for all the help though!

but remember, our key fobs are by manufacturer standards supposed to last for the "life of the vehicle"

luckily I have 3 complete key/fob assemblies for mine lol
