  • How To: Ram Air Through Grill

I got my ideas from reading the Tiger Crab Ram Air and someone mentiond doing it through the grill.(if ure the one that mentioned this idea, thank you for giving me the motivation to do this) This is a simple and clean way to get more air without having a scoop hanging below your car and worrying about scooping up water. i also didnt want to have to fab up much, i can cut anything, but putting shit together is where i fail.

    Tools needed:
    1. Clip remover
    2. 9/16? socket
    3. Snips

    Material list:
    1 flex connector
    1 coupling
1 4x4 PVC to Drain connector
    2 zipties

This picture has an extra flex connector and coupling, thats for another project that will be done latter.

First start by jacking the car up and rmoving the pass. side wheel, then remove the pass. side valance and center splash guard.

Now remove all inner fenders and remove the intake resonator if u havent allready. You should end up with this view.

Now take one flex tube and connect one coupler to one end, the side that the coupler is on is the sice the PVC will go on. This is a tight fit so force it on as so it wont slide off while driving. The other side of the flex tube will force through the hole in the fender going to the air box. Now bend it tube to get it inbetween the foglight and AC lines. At this point the tube can be ziptied to the AC lines to support it. In the last pic notice the other ziptie i used to help support more of the tube.

Now ure ram air set up is complete, this next section is where the snips come in handy, if u were wondering about the inner fenders.

Notice the piece i am pointing to, this is the main piece that will need to come out. Other trimming will be necessary as u can see in the following pic.

BAM! ure ram air is complete, now just put it all back together and test it out. I have noticed a difference at high speeds, the car just seems to want to keep on going. Much better throttle response at 45mph+. i have allready tested this at 115mph and it has stayed! So for $15 and 30-45 mins u can have ure very own sutom ram air intake. If i left anything out let me know, i will add more pics and answer anyquestions yall gots.

o it! the throttle response is rediculous above 45mph and it just wants to go faster and faster. but I snatched mine up from horeillys for free wen I worked there. and the pic of it through the grill is as good as it gets, u can only see it if u get down and look for it, but I will soon be using this as a brake cooler and adding one to the other side also. but that's another day and another "how to".

I cant imagine that the flex tubing gives good air flow it is not smooth in any way on the inside, its just my opinion.
I guess if I were to try this upgrade i would spring for some intake tubing and a few clamps and silicon adaptors, probably more like a 50.00 upgrade then but pretty and functional.

great thoughts though cold air is a good thing as long as you dont throw a code

that is very true, the air flow can't be smooth at all, but $50+ for a little bit better air flow or $15 for average air flow. I think I can deal with the average air flow.

but this is more for cold air, than air flow!
I doesn't really matter if its a straight tube or flex tube because when the air hits the air box your "air flow" is destroyed anyways. If you think you won't get enough air flow your crazy. Try placing your hand in front of the tubing and have someone rev the motor. You can feel the difference! Smooth or flex doesn't matter... much.

all I know is this has been the best $15 investment I've ever made, my 45-100mph times are way down. I just can't get over the throttle response and how much it pulls.

like said before, time to get crabbed!

I "thought" I could follow the distructions and finally put the final piece of piping to make it a real cold air intake. Boy was I wrong! I didn't get past the plastic clips. I gave up cause I didn't want to start braking anything. Anyone in Colorado Springs who wants to show me how to do this? I'll do all the work, just want someone smart in the automotives area.
