Thanks for this! I really need to do this soon...mine sounds like a small airplane is taking off inside the car. Any part #'s for the blower motor?

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

for anyone who might be removing the blower to clean out debris or something, but not planning to replace the motor, make sure BEFORE you cut the blower cup out that you have ordered and received a service ring kit! Without it, you cannot reinstall the motor. I am told, however, that if you order a new blower motor, you automatically receive the service ring kit with it.

Part number for the service ring kit is 15844347

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

    now with pics.

remove the plastic access panel underneath the glove box.

    disconnect the blower motor.

remove the 2 bolts holding the plastic cup on.

cut the blower motor to remove it from dash.

this is what you'll end up with.

remove the plastic cup from the old blower motor.

this is the all important trim you MUST have. (honestly why didn't GM simply design the blower motor to be held in place with the trim ring in the 1st place. )

insert the blower motor in the plastic cup and then attach the trim ring over the plastic cup as such. Reattach all bolts and nuts. Wrap the provided foam tape around the blower motor to ensure it has a good seal in the dash.

install blower motor into the dash. Screw the trim ring into the dash to hold the blower motor in place. Reattach cable to blower motor.

    no,

on a side note, NOT all blower motors come with the trim ring. Apparently there is two different types of blower motor (kits?) that gm carries.

    *zaps thread from the dead*

So how much was the blower motor you got newbie? I'm going to drop the money to replace mine, I'm sick of the blower motor sounding like a prop plane is inside my car. How hard would you say this was to switch over??

*Edit: Thanks for the pictures too, much better than diagrams! :P

blower motor was like $80 something from the dealer, and $40 something for the trim ring kit. GMPD has it much cheaper, (like $65 for the motor) but I was impatient and in a hurry.

as for how easy it was, It took about 35minutes tops to do it. Just follow the pics and diagram and you'll be fine.

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

This replacement looks 10 times easier than what I just finished up in my 99 GP GTP. Good lord i think my back still hurts from being upside down in a pretzel.

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

    Glad I found this.

I'd been assuming the blower motor was the big black unit behind the radio... Need to put the car in for warranty work to fix this, as it sounds like shit and I'd assumed I'd be removing my aftermarket din for them before hand.

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

Thanks for the write up Pooner and newbiestyle. Does pretty much every G6 have this problem? Mine drives me insane and is only getting louder. My buddy has a '06 GTP also and his is loud as hell. Does anyone have the part # for the blower motor and is their any way of knowing if the motor comes with the trim kit before you get it( i.e. different part number than other blower motor)?

    Re: Blower Motor Replacement

How does the plastic access panel underneath the glove box come down? Is it held on by clips or screws? Is it tabs? How do you get that piece off?

thanks for your help in advance
